1. The Great York Ghost Search, York City Centre 👻👻👻
For 3 weeks starting from 11 October, there are 26 Ghost Lamps hidden around the streets of York. It’s great fun trying to hunt them all out and even more fun when it starts to get dark – don’t forget to take a torch out with you. Plus every evening from 5-7 pm during half term (27 October – 1 November) there will be 50 Mini Ghosts hiding in some dark corners of York for you to find and take home.

2. Science Circus Skills Workshop at the National Railway Museum 🎪🎪🎪
This half term ‘StrongWomen Science’ are at the Railway Museum, who are a pair of fire-eating circus performers. Enjoy their show and find out the science behind their amazing tricks. To get even more involved, sign up for the Circus Skills Workshop after the show (pre-book online).

3. Brass, Steel & Fire Exhibition at the National Railway Museum 🚂🚂🚂
Get up closet to Stephenson’s Rocket and learn how it shaped the future of the railways. Learn about how ordinary people created extraordinary machines from scratch and how their experiments pushed the boundaries of engineering.

4. Pumpkin Carving Event at Minskip Farm Shop, York 🎃🎃🎃
Enjoy a day on the farm at this Halloween Event. Pick your perfect pumpkin and then get carving in the barn. You can also climb the straw mountain or take a walk around the farm to meet the alpacas and pigs and explore the vegetable garden (but look out for spiders!). 5. Make a Masterpiece at York Art Gallery 🎨🎨🎨
Enjoy this family-friendly drop-in art session based on the exhibition, Making a Masterpiece: Bouts and Beyond. The exhibition takes its inspiration from a fiftenth century painting by Dieric Bouts and shows how artists make images and project ideas about their practices back into the world.

6. Ghost Cellar Tour, Treasurer’s House, York 👻👻👻
Put on a hard hat (not a witches hat!) and join a guided tour of the cellar at the Treasurer’s House. The cellar played host to ghostly Roman soldiers that marched along the buried Roman road that lies beneath the house.

9. Pick Your Own Pumpkin Festival at Spilmans, near Thirsk🎃🎃🎃
It’s free to enter the farm and enjoy free tractor rides, just pay for what you pick, no need to pre-book. The Carving Barn (pre-booking recommended) is £5 per child and offers 2 hours in the barn with access to spooky walks, singing pumpkins and a spooky cinema! Let the farm take care of all the mess and take your carved pumpkin home.
