20 photos inside the Star Street Children’s Salon in York
If you need your child’s hair cutting in York then we have great news for you!
There is a brand new salon in York that is all about children – it’s called the Star Street Salon and it’s SO fab! I took my youngest mini mumbler for a long overdue haircut and I honestly can’t rate this place highly enough!
On entering, it was clear that Children were very much first in mind when it came to the bespoke design of the place… the reception area has a fantastic funky VW campervan as the desk and the whole area is carpeted with a grass style – including the seats! There are toys and books to keep the kids entertained while they’re waiting for their appointment to start.
There are 3 different ‘zones’ that the children are allowed to choose from when it comes to getting their hair cut.
The Car Zone has a choice of 3 fab cars for the children to sit in. They can pretend to be Lewis Hamilton while getting the chop.
There is also a bakery zone which has beautiful lights, colours and signs to replicate a toy town street.
Finally the area that Meg chose – a pretty little fairy world (you can even spot the fairy door if you look close (I wonder if the fairies sweep up all the cut hair late at night to make their mattresses from it!)
Not only is this place a great fun setting for the kids – the hairdressing experience was second to none. It’s not the cheapest child’s hair cut but great value as you clearly get what you pay for (see the prices here) …. Meg had a wash, cut and blow dry. She has a bob and has quite thick hair so it’s not the easiest cut, but I honestly think it’s one of the best cuts she’s ever had – It even maintained it’s shape beautifully after I washed it at home – the true test as I’m no Vidal when it comes to styling!
And it’s not just all about the hair cuts- they also do nails, braiding and glitter tattoos and are offering parties for kids in the salon and soon in the great party room (I had a sneak peak and although it’s still to be decorated up, it’s a fab space and I know it’ll be really popular!)
All in all I’m just SO pleased that the owner, Dawn, decided to make this much needed Children’s Salon into a reality. She has a passion about making this Salon accessible to all children and has found it works really well for children with SEN as well – which she’s really proud of.
