Sponsored Blog Post from York Cocoa House
We’ve all done Mother’s Day, Easter, Father’s Day, Christmas and most of us have had a birthday during lockdown, now it’s time to work out an alternative Valentine’s day plan during lockdown. To help you out, York Cocoa Works have come up with 5 scrumptious chocolate themed Valentine’s day lockdown activities we think you are going to love plus we have a special Mumbler discount!
1. Chocolate Fondue for two!
This year York Cocoa House have developed a chocolate fondue gift set to help you celebrate with a loved one this Valentine’s day. A pot of chocolate shards comes accompanied with heart shaped chocolate and vanilla mallows, brownies and cookies which are ideal for dipping. Simply add your choice of heated cream or dairy alternative to the chocolate shards and stir to melt the chocolate and create the perfect fondue pot. Why not grab some fresh fruit such as strawberries and blueberries to add into the mix.
The set also comes with 2 handmade seasonal truffles and two portions of hot chocolate, perfect for sharing this Valentine’s day. Available to order online they are priced at £24.50.
2. At home Chocolate Tasting experience
Did you know that to fully appreciate a good chocolate bar you need to use all 5 of your senses? The York Cocoa Works chocolate at home tasting set comes with 7 different bars, each showcasing a different cocoa origin and percentage. Also included is a tasting guide and tasting notes so you can chat about and compare the different flavours. We have even created a ‘how to taste chocolate’ video guide to help you on your journey.
This is a great activity to do together as a family to talk about the different flavours and experience how the origin of a cocoa bean can add different flavour notes.
3. Parents hot chocolate station
Whilst it’s still chilly outside why not treat yourself to a luxurious hot chocolate to warm yourself up. To make it a real treat you could put together a tray of toppings and upgrades to create the ultimate hot chocolate experience. Here are some of our favourite hot chocolate hacks:
In terms of toppings you could try adding marshmallows, chocolate chips, fudge pieces, chopped nuts, whipped cream, cocoa powder or toffee sauce for extra texture.
To add a flavour twist try adding a shot of alcohol such as coffee or orange liqueur or mint schnapps. Or for an alcohol free version why not add some essential oils such as peppermint, rose or even lavender.
York Cocoa Works offer a variety of hot chocolates including their classic blend, a sweet dark chocolate that is also suitable for vegans, seasonal spiced orange as well as classic milk, white and seriously dark hot chocolates.
4. Simple Chocolate Mousse for the main event
This simple chocolate mousse recipe is quick to prepare and you can leave it chilling in the fridge all day ready to serve once you’ve got the kids off to bed and are ready to spend some quality time together. Why not get the kids involved in helping you to make this delicious dessert.
150g 70% dark chocolate, plus extra to serve
6 egg whites
2 tbsp golden castor sugar
4 tbsp crème fraiche and grated chocolate to serve
Melt the chocolate in the microwave in a microwaveable bowl, stirring every 30 seconds until just melted. Whisk the egg whites to soft peaks, scatter in the sugar and whisk again until the mixture forms stiff peaks when you lift the whisk out (around 30 seconds).
Add a big tablespoon of the egg white to the melted chocolate and mix vigorously, working fast so the chocolate doesn’t cool and harden. Then fold in the remaining egg whites carefully using a spatula or large metal spoon. Spoon into 4 glasses or ramekins and set in the fridge for 2-3 hours.
Serve each pudding with a dollop of crème fraiche and shavings of dark chocolate!
5. Chocolate Movie Moments
Enjoy a box of decadent chocolate truffles whilst watching some of the most memorable chocolate movie moments, here are 5 of our favourites:
Chocolat – A chocolate rom-com perfect for Valentines day, this story is about a women and her daughter who set up a chocolate shop in a small French village that shakes up the rigid morality of the community. Based on the book by Joanne Harris, it’s the perfect movie to snuggle up together on the sofa with.
Forest Gump – ‘Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get’, well that is certainly true of the last 12 months. Forest Gump is a classic movie that should be on everyone’s movie watch list.
Charlie & the Chocolate Factory or WiIly Wonka’s Chocolate Factory – whether it’s Johnny Depp or Gene Wilder, both movies feature an iconic chocolate river which will leave you requiring an immediate chocolate fix!
Matilda – Based on another Roald Dahl classic, watch out for Bruce Bogtrotters chocolate cake eating challenge! This is a great movie to share with the kids if you are looking for a family valentines day activity.
Romantics Annonymous – set in a French chocolate factory, this is a story of how two chocolatiers fall in love over a shared passion. Very similar style to the movie Amelie, this is a quirky, funny subtitled movie.
