It is a lovely, unique and successful school, with an atmosphere all of its own. So much of this arises from Bootham’s Quaker heritage, which provides the ethos, environment and framework of enduring values, practices and approaches that underpin an education which fully addresses the real needs of modern young people, and makes ours such a happy and thriving community.
Bootham is a day and boarding school located in the heart of York, just a 10 minute walk from York station, catering to students from Nursery through to Year 13.
Bootham School was recognised as the Independent Schools of the Year Award 2024 for its environmental campaigns. This award highlights Bootham’s role as a leader in innovative and forward-thinking education.
Life in the boarding community at Bootham is frequently referred to as a “home away from home.” Our supportive boarding school, accommodating both girls and boys in years 7-13, fosters a welcoming atmosphere and operates with a balanced approach, grounded in practical family values.
With our Flexi Boarding option, students can choose to stay for two or three nights each week. This is an excellent choice for busy families and serves as a valuable stepping stone in helping students develop the independence they’ll need in university life.
We also offer occasional boarding for day students, allowing all of our pupils the opportunity to experience boarding at Bootham.
