Bookings open TODAY for the new Hole in Wand Attraction
York’s Coppergate Centre will soon be the home of the spellbinding family fun this Spring with the opening of The Hole In Wand – the Wizard Golf experience, with tickets going on sale today.
Trainee Witches and Wizards are being encouraged to get involved in the hunt for the-ever-rambunctious gargoyle, Grobblenook, who has made Coppergate his home between the bubbling cauldrons, magical portals and the rest of the magic-infused finishing that make up York’s latest attraction.
All sound a little far-fetched? Far from it! The Hole In Wand, a new Wizard-Golf experience, is the brain-child of local entrepreneurs Ben Fry and Phil Pinder who spent lockdown developing the former Patisserie Valerie site into the home of magical family-friendly activities in York city centre.
“We are desperate to share the magic of The Hole In Wand with the families of York. Our course has been designed to bring the magic back into days out after lockdown. From our giant picture frame where players might become part of the painting to teaching a special light spell to illumine the way forward we will give our visitors a fantastical experience as they help us search for Grobblenook!” Commented Director of Wizardry, Phil Pinder who also runs the nearby Potions Cauldron on York’s famous Shambles. “At the end of your adventure you will find out if you have the magical powers of a Serpent, Basilisk, Unicorn or Wizard and every player will receive a magic potion gift to take home, plus hopefully find Grobblenook!”
This new nine-hole themed mini-golf experience is just the start of the whimsical experiences. Visitors will be invited to recharge their magic after the course with a selection of fabulously-phantasmagorical food offerings, including a Wand Dog, Uni-pop-corn or GrobbleNachos and a delicious potion with poisonous options for grown up spell makers.
As soon as restrictions are further relaxed there are plans for special events, including birthday party experiences.
The Hole In Wand is opening its doors to visitors on Monday 17th May, when lockdown restrictions lift. The Wizards are encouraging all trainee wizards to pre-book a timeslot in advance, giving visitors a guaranteed entry time to enjoy the experience, saving any queuing times as the new experience is expected to be popular with families.
However, there is a special magic test that is being instituted by the Wizards-in-Chief to ensure only those with the strongest magical credentials can gain access to the Hole in Wand when it opens.
“As we are looking for the best of the best of magical talent we are going to be enforcing a strict policy – those with stupendous spellcasting abilities will be able to access The Hole in Wand at a discounted price of £6.99. Those that fail the test will have to pay a premium to access Wizard Golf. This is due to all the additional training in the mystic arts they will need to even have a chance of completing our spellbinding course! We have installed a special filter on our new website to identify potential magic potency – and we are pretty confident the families of York will pass our test.” Added Ben Fry, Chief Enchantment Officer and known to many in the city as the official Town Crier and a radio personality.
