JORVIK Viking Centre – Coppergate, York
Travel back in time to 10th century York, to experience what it was like living in the city. The sights, sounds and even the smells of the Viking Age are brought vividly back to life as you journey back 1,000 years.

“It was my 6 year old daughers first visit to Jorvik and she was mesmerized all the way around. She loved the section that sent her back through the ages. it really gave her the sense of going back through history, and of course unique smells of the Viking past will be something she’ll remember for ages!”

York Castle Museum – Tower Street, York
York Castle Museum is brilliant for families as there is so much to explore. Kirkgate is a Victorian street that really brings history to life. You can visit York Castle Prison, as the museum building was once a Georgian Prison – watch out for the most notorious inmate of all, Dick Turpin!

“York Castle Museum is fab – I’ve been taking my little boy there since he was very young. The Toy Gallery and play area is great, as is the Victorian street.”

York Minster – Deangate, York
Exploring the inside of York Minster is breathtaking. It is one of Europe’s most magnificent cathedrals and inside you will be able to learn about its Roman roots and its role in Viking history.
What do Mumbler’s think?
“I just want to recommend York Minster as a free trip out with little ones. We’ve just been this morning and it was marvellous. The toilet and changing facilities are also very good. It really was excellent.”

Yorkshire Museum, Museum Gardens – York
The Yorkshire Museum has galleries showcasing treasures from the city’s Roman, Viking and medieval past. Don’t miss the ground-breaking exhibition Yorkshire’s Jurassic World. Take an epic journey back through 150 million years of Yorkshire to discover lost giants and the changing worlds they inhabited.

Yorkshire Day Family Fun Day at Haxby Memorial Hall on Saturday 29 July!
Enjoy a day of fun for al the family with games, craft stalls, refreshments and much more! All profits go to Haxby Memorial Hall Development Fund.

Open Day at York’s Merchant Taylors Hall
Celebrate Yorkshire Day and visit the medieval Hall of the Company of Merchant Taylors in York. Learn about the Company and enjoy this unique building.
The splendid Company Hall is open to the public on Tuesday 1 August 2023.
Explore this amazing building, a hidden gem in the heart of the City of York. It was built in the fifteenth century and has been beautifully preserved. An ancient oak roof covers the main Hall and the small Hall. You can view unique stained glass, pictures and architecture.
