On Saturday 23rd March, families are invited to join the booksellers at Waterstones Yorkto celebrate Gruffalo Day, a special event being held around the UK to mark the twentieth anniversary of the classic children’s book.
Since it was first published on March 23rd 1999, The Gruffalo has been translated into seventy six languages and has become one of the world’s favourite picture books. For twenty years Julia Donaldson’s award-winning story of the mouse and Gruffalo’s encounter in the deep dark wood has continued to delight children and adults alike, with the book’s enduring popularity generating sales of over eleven million copies worldwide.
In York, fans of The Gruffalo can join in the twentieth anniversary celebrations at Waterstones on Saturday 23rd, when the bookshop will hosting story-telling times, treasure hunt, games and lots of fun activities.
