Experience life as a Viking warrior at JORVIK Viking Festival, this February half-term.
The annual JORVIK Viking Festival is a city-wide celebration of York’s rich Norse heritage and it’s coming from Saturday 15th February – Sunday 23rd February 2020
There are lots of free events to keep children entertained at the Viking Festival – from the Best Beard Competition, to storytelling at SPARK (Storytelling at Spark on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th. Venue tbc for later in the week depending on the weather).
There are also the popular sword workshops, themed crafting activities and an activity-packed book launch! We’ve put details of the best bit for families below…
Have-A-Go Sword! 15th February – 23rd February, all day
Prepare for battle with our sword-fighting activity (DIG from Saturday 15th-Monday 17th. Returning to St Sampson’s Square later on in the week – weather dependant) Little Vikings can prepare for adventure with our fun sword-fighting workshops, led by JORVIK’s expert instructors. £5

Try your hand at Viking crafting!
With pottery, wool-braiding, beard making, coin pouch making and flag painting all on offer, there’s plenty to choose from and get creative.

Early medieval wordplay allow us to not only discover the city, but also the culture of its early medieval citizens.

Exclusive activity-packed book launch for the latest in Hilary Robinson’s wonderful series.
Discover loads of facts about Vikings, learn how to draw the fearsome Harald Bluetooth with the book’s illustrator, take part in a Norse quiz and get your books signed! This is a great event to intrigue and engage young readers. The workshop is suitable for all ages of children.
