This Easter there is plenty going on at the National Railway Museum to keep everyone busy!
Railway Creations is a fun making activity where you can design your own railway from everyday recyclable materials.
At the Mystery Boxes sessions, you can discover the history behind some of the more interesting and peculiar items in the collection.
Conservation in Action allows you to ask questions to the Conservation team about their work around the museum.
Enjoy an Object Hunt around the museum with one of the fun and free activity trails
Build a Locomotive and learn how steam engines work whilst you are doing it! Take your own LEGO steam locomotive home with you. £5 per child, Sat 16 April only – book in advance.
Enjoy a ride on the Miniature Railway! £3.50 (under 2s are free)

2. Enjoy the Chocolate Festival in York🍫
Enjoy celebrating York’s chocolate and confectionery heritage, with plenty for everyone to enjoy – especially chocolate lovers!
Chocolate and Sweet Treat Market in Parliament Street. Over 40 stands selling truffles, eggs, cakes, brownies and much more!
York Chocolate Festival Bar is a collaboration with the Yorkshire Explorer who has a range of dessert cocktails to enjoy and Zzinga who will be showcasing their Honey Cider.
Chocolate Making Workshops & Activities are available every day. Make your own Easter Egg and Chocolate Bunnies with York Cocoa Works.
Eat, walk & taste on the Chocolate Sampling Trail! Enjoy sweet samples from shops and artisan makers across the city. £3 per person.

3. Visit Sandburn Hall for their Easter Fun Day🐣
Visit Sandburn Hall, just off the A64 about 10 miles/20 minutes drive from York for their Easter Fun Day! Why not book a table in the restaurant and enjoy a family lunch whilst you are there or treat yourself to a Roast Pork Sandwich!

4. Discover the York Mumbler Mythical Creature Quest 🐉
Our Mumbler Mythical Creature Quest takes you on a short but magical walk around York to seek out eight mythical creatures that are hiding in the city. Collect your FREE map from Visit York Information Centre on Museum Street or download it here.
Once you find each creature you’ll need to unscramble the clues to uncover the magical Mumbler password!
When you have completed your Quest and worked out the password, you can go to Visit York Information Centre and collect your reward sticker!

5. Foss Fairy Trail 🧚♀️
On Sunday 17th April enjoy a special Easter Treasure Hunt at the Fairy Trail along the River Foss and help lift an evil curse!
Enjoy this free public river walk with a difference with lots of fairy houses, doors, pubs, hospitals and more! Created by Tracy, who lives locally, the Fairy Trail aims to bring positivity and joy to the community.
You can access the trail just over the bridge on Heworth Green and through the blue pedestrian gate.

6. Visit a ‘new to you’ park or play area! 🌳

7. Take a trip to York Art Gallery 🖼
York Art Gallery is very family-friendly and there are some brilliant fact sheets and colouring sheets you can download and print for free before you visit to keep the kids engaged and entertained on the way round.
Activity bags are also available to buy from the shop for £6.99. A reusable tote bag full of coloured pencils, an activity guide, a kaleidoscope and a colour wheel. You can take it around the gallery with you and complete all the activities.
After visiting the gallery you can walk down into the Artists Garden and the Edible Wood before exploring the rest of the beautiful York Museum Gardens.

9. Visit your local library this Easter 📚
There are always plenty of great (and often free) events going on at your local library. Here is just a small selection:
What’s the Story, You Decide with Mud Pie Arts: Suitable for 7-11 year olds dive into the picture world of ‘Journey’ by Aaron Becker. Expect fun drama games, role-play and group storytelling.
The Hare in the Mood from Hoglets Theatre: Enjoy a magical journey with Hoglets Theatre. Aimed a primary and pre-schoolers.
There are plenty of FREE storytime sessions, crafting and LEGO clubs at many of the libraries.
10. Complete the Experience Easter Trail at York Minster 💒
Take a visit to York Minster this Easter and collect an Experience Easter Trail or download it in advance here.
There are six interactive stops where you are can learn more about the Easter Story. You will also get the opportunity to decorate a paper spring flower to take home that is inspired by the Minster’s Easter Garden.
You can also collect a ‘Little Explorer Backpack’, which help young explorers discover stories and fun facts about the cathedral.

11. Enjoy a family walk in York🚶♀️
Nothing beats getting out in the fresh air! We’ve got loads of walking ideas for you! We have over 50 walks in York City Centre and further afield. We also got some Circular Walks in York which are perfect with kids, as there is no opportunity to moan about walking back!
If you fancy treating everyone, how about a walk with a cafe nearby, enjoy a hot drink and cake and a walk! We’ve also highlighted some great Woodland Walks near York, perfect for adding in a few more activities to keep the kids entertained like den building or leaf collecting. Also if nature is your thing, how about visiting one of the Nature Reserves near York. We’ve also created some fab scavenger hunts for you to download, there’s one for each season.
