Eating out with kids can sometimes be something of a challenge (understatement of the year!) There are plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants in the York area which really do welcome children and families so I’ve compiled a list of them here.
These places are not all ‘exclusively’ for families or children but they have all shown thoughtful touches or great facilities (things like pushchair access, changing facilities, highchairs and so on)
At York Mumbler we are always looking to ‘spread the word’ if we find out about any little gems, so if you know of a pub, restaurant or café that should be included in this listing then please contact us here.
The award-winning farm shop and newly expanded café specialises in home-grown fruit, veg, and local and rare breed meats, plus the finest homemade food including quiches, scones, soups and seasonal dishes. Pick your own in the summer. A great day out for all the family – entertain the children in the brand new play area and visit the animal corner with feeding platform, while you relax in the cafe garden.
Our superfresh homegrown asparagus crop is now ready. The asparagus crop thrives in our sandy soil, being a mediterranean crop, and the quality and taste of the yield benefit tremendously from this. Watch out for the asparagus specialities in the cafe and on the deli in the farmshop.
Our excellent delicatessen serves a wide range of delicious hot and cold goodies. The bakery and deli ovens are also on display so you can see the cakes being baked in all their glory. There is also a sandwich station where superfresh sandwiches will be made to order in front of the customers. We are making it easier for customers to eat on the go with take away tea and coffees from the deli, and a good choice of easy lunches with hot and cold sandwiches and pies to suit busy lifestyles.
Opening Times: Open seven days a week, Farmshop 9am-5.30pm, Cafe 9am – 4.30pm.

The Cosy Club gets my vote too, they have menus for all dietary requirements, cocktails are really nice, price is great, staff are great and its a really lovely venue in town
LT, June 2018
I love Cosy Club. Spent loads of time here with mum friends in the first 6-7 months as the soft seating area is so feeding friendly and there’s a decent baby change. Pretty spacious too so suitable for groups of 5 or 6 with prams. As the babies are getting bigger it’s a lovely place to eat as a family, the staff are so helpful with the little ones. The food is good too and it feels more “grown up” if you want to feel like an adult for an hour! There’s colouring stuff provided for older kids too

I often go there with my one and two year old children as it caters for all of our needs. The children can play (read, shout, climb, create absolute carnage) in the children’s area while I chase them in vain trying to control them. The staff never tut, never frown and often join in the chaos bringing books to them and reading to them. If the children eventually calm or if I sneak away and leave the kind staff reading to my monsters, I can grab a coffee and a snack for the kids. We can enjoy it at a table or in with the books and kill a happy hour or two in a warm and friendly environment.
