Eating out with kids can sometimes be something of a challenge (understatement of the year!) There are plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants in the York area which really do welcome children and families so I’ve compiled a list of them here.
These places are not all ‘exclusively’ for families or children but they have all shown thoughtful touches or great facilities (things like pushchair access, changing facilities, highchairs and so on)
At York Mumbler we are always looking to ‘spread the word’ if we find out about any little gems, so if you know of a pub, restaurant or café that should be included in this listing then please contact us here.
We are an independant cafe with family being the heart of our business. We offer homemade cakes, scones, sandwiches, all day breakfasts and afternoon teas. Food to take in or eat out. We have high chairs and childrens menu including smaller portions from the main menu, so your little one doesn’t miss out!
We offer a gluten free alternative for sandwiches and if pre-booked a dairy free option (scones & cakes). We have soya milk available daily as a dairy free alternative for our coffees/hot chocolate/teas.
Just recommending this really lovely little family run cafe in woodthorpe, so child friendly and they do proper coffee and homemade cakes too. There’s also a new playground right nearby too.

May not be as well known as some but it’s a little gem! Homemade cakes are amazing! Defiantly worth a visit with the kids. Highly recommend

Our Traditional Sicilian café bar is modern with clear and clean décor. We are very family friendly by providing high chairs and changing facilities and plenty of space for buggies. We are popular with the kids and adults for our gorgeous ice-cream! Our customers receive a warm friendly welcome at Trinacria. Whether you want to enjoy a leisurely lunch with a glass of wine, pop in get an ice cream or take a cake home; Trinacria is the place for you. Here at Trinacria we consistently adhere to high standards of quality and service. Our staff are our most important resource and we value them highly.
A huge thumbs up for Trinacria on Bishy Road – always welcoming of us as a family with a baby; quite a tight squeeze with a pram but doable, and they’re very accommodating. Decent baby change table and lots of Ikea highchairs. Brilliant for Sunday brunch, or ice creams (whatever the weather!).

Cakes d’Licious is a Vintage Tearoom and Cakery in York. We proudly serve our Vintage Afternoon Tea which includes freshly prepared sandwiches, crisps, salad, mouth watering scones, strawberry jam, fresh cream and a selection of cakes.
They have toys and books and are really accomodating and good with kids. My mum takes my son about every fortnight and has done for the last two years since he was born. The staff all make a fuss of him. Book ahead if going at the weekend. They are fine with prams coming in even though they are small as long as not too busy. Their food is super tasty especially the cakes but also the scrambled egg. It’s a very relaxed place and you never feel rushed through.

Cakes D’Licious is our favourite. Best hot chocolate around, always friendly and lives up to its name. Great for lunch and a cream tea is a real treat.

This is a true hidden gem. With space for a few buggies, a couple of highchairs, a sofa a toy box and, most importantly, the most delicious brownies you’ve had! It’s just in front of Chapmans pond so plenty of parking and great for a little stroll around the pond after too.
