It’s a special box, filled with festive treats. The aim is to encourage you to feel all cosy and Christmassy. It helps to settle excited little ones who just can’t wait any longer til Christmas, providing a preview of the fun to come. It spreads the excitement out a little bit more, so it’s not all crammed into one day. It doesn’t mean you have to buy more or extra stuff – just put a few gifts you may have bought anyway in the box.
A convenient place to put all the festive bits together to present them, although not essential, a bag would do or even a little festive pile of goodies.
You can buy personalised wooden boxes, generic Christmas boxes, gift bags or even have a go at making something yourself or with the children.

“We do pj’s and books from the elves on Christmas eve, we don’t so a box as such as they seem expensive to buy for what they are. We just wrap them up and the elves deliver them to their beds while they are in the bath.”

“I do them for my kids I find it a lovely idea. I get a bauble for the tree, a bedtime book, new pjs, hot choccy, a gingerbread house kit (we all sit together and make them as a tradition now) some sweets, maybe a dvd for us to watch as a family then we have a Santa plate so I get that out and they leave something out for him. They consider one of their main gifts now and absolutely love opening it.”
Mumbler CP
“I don’t do Christmas eve boxes but generally get them a new pair of pjs to wear to bed.”
Mumbler LH
“I’m not sure if this is a ‘normal’ Christmas Eve box, but the idea I pinched from a friend is new PJs, a dvd and hot drink so they have something focus on or calm them down on the night instead of being crazy with excitement. So no presents are opened it’s just a nice night in, in a box (or gift bag)”
Mumbler RW
“I love doing the Christmas Eve boxes and the kids all love them. I’ve never seen them so excited about pyjamas before!”
Mumbler CP
Mumbler CP sums it up nicely:
“Get what you can afford and don’t worry about what everyone else does. It is being together and the excitement of waiting for Christmas morning that matters”
