Lots of regular dance classes are starting back up again but we wanted to highlight some NEW things that were going on in the world of dance this September, with lots of different styles available which one will appeal most to your child? Listed below are the dance classes and teachers who have something NEW to offer and wanted to let you know.
Some are completely new to York, some have made changes that take effect in September and some have new times, venues, owners or days available.

At Derwent Danceworks, we are thrilled to be expanding our timetable in the York area after the upheaval of the last year.
New to our timetable is:
Acro for Pre-schoolers! Streetpop for ages 2-4, as well as new Baby Ballet Classes.
For older performers we have new Jazz classes, Musical Theatre classes, Freestyle and Contemporary for a range of age groups. We also welcome beginners in all our classes, including Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Freestyle, Streetdance, MT, Acro and Contemporary.
Throughout September, students can try out a new class FOR FREE for the whole month! Contact us for details.
KINESISdance is a creative, exciting & inclusive dance community, based in York, & run by trained dancer & qualified teacher Helen Brown. We run classes for children, young people, and adults, from 4yrs to 104! There are a variety of styles on offer, including Street Dance, Contemporary & Lyrical, Musical Theatre & Creative dance. I also teach Dance in schools, offering After-School clubs, CPD for teachers, as well as Wedding First Dance Tuition, and have run a number of Youth & Community dance projects, so there is hopefully something for everyone!
All classes aim to develop technique & creativity, build confidence, and inspire a love of dance & movement, while focusing on fun and fitness throughout.

I’m Kirsty Higgins, and I run my own ballet school. I’m a professionally qualified dance teacher, living and teaching in York. I teach Ballet, Tap and Freestyle to children from ages 3 to 16 and enthusiastic adults too!
My children’s classes are Saturdays at Knavesmire Primary School, 30mins £2.50, 45mins, £3.50 and an hour £5, paid half termly.
I am a patient and qualified teacher with a BDS and insurance.
My Adult ballet classes will be Friday evenings at Steiner School York, costing £6 for the hour.
The Patricia Veale School of Dance was founded by Patricia Veale in the 1960’s at the Acomb Church Hall on Front Street in York. It subsequently moved to 6 – 8, Regent Buildings in Acomb, York and has been there ever since. Patricia worked hard with all her passion and dedication to gain the reputation she still has to this day. Kelly Clarey is the daughter of the late Patricia Veale. She is now the owner and principal teacher of the dance school in York and continues to maintain the well known reputation of her mother. Kelly is a former professional dancer and tutor for the Royal Academy of Dance.

Mama’s Got Moves is excited to announce we have new classes all over York starting in September. After a fun summer dancing with some amazing mamas in Rowntree Park, we are now spreading out across the city.
Mama’s Got Moves is a fun babywearing dance class aimed at all parents or carers. It’s a chance to meet like-minded people, dance to some fun tunes, we do alternate weeks of 90’s classics, Salsa, Bachata, Cha Cha Cha. And the best part is you need no experience, can be a complete novice, and still accomplish a new dance routine by the end of each class.

Starbrite Studios School of Dance and Performing Arts are set to return to the All Saints Hall in Upper Poppleton in September! Established in 2002, we create positive, inclusive, performers.
Unleash your child’s star quality by enrolling them in our Star Performer programme. This class combines two fantastic performance styles, commercial and musical theatre, in a space where self-expression and individuality are embraced. Every class is delivered with interactive presentations to further enhance the enjoyment that our seriously fun curriculum provides.

York Dance Works are looking forward to the new term starting on September 11th. With a regular timetable and new classes starting soon it’s a great time to join.
We have dance classes for children and adults, all ages and abilities welcome, regular examination sessions and we can’t wait to finally perform our show that had to be delayed. The show has a theme of the movies and we will be rehearsing the set dances and adding new ones whilst continuing our training for developing as a dancer.
We have space in some classes and are starting a new Tutu Tots (and Boogie Boys !) on Saturdays at 9.45am at Fishergate. Suitable for age 3-5 years. First class is free !
Also a new Musical Theatre Performance class starting on Tuesday evenings (first class free) to dance, sing and act and Zumba fitness is returning soon !
