To rest for the big day, Father Christmas likes to come and holiday at Beningbrough. He brings some of his best elves….although they’re still very naughty. They enjoy playing in the garden, dressing up in the hall and riding on the bikes – just like you.
What to expect
You can pre-book to meet with Father Christmas in the library in the hall. As a small group he will read you some stories, every child can go to see him, have a photograph taken and if you want to, give him your list. Then there’s a small gift to take away and either put under your tree or open early.
We ho-ho-hope to see you soon.
Price is £7 per child with one adult place.
Further adult places can be bought at £7 for two.
Normal admissions charges also apply – free to National Trust members and under fives.
Please time your arrival to allow for parking, time to get your admission tickets or show your National Trust membership cards in the stables and walk a few hundred metres to the hall. Workshops will start promptly.
Booking essential as we do tend to get fully booked – phone the elves on 01904 472014.
Sometimes the elves are busy in the workshop so if they don’t pick up, leave a message and you will be called back in order to reserve your space.
I can highly recommend stories in the library with Father Christmas at Beningbrough Hall

Santa is taking up residence in the cosy Boathouse Grotto.
In addition to our popular sold out Father Christmas events in the House, we’ve persuaded the big man himself and one of his cheeky elves to see even more children than we’d originally planned. Due to huge demand we are creating an extra opportunity for children and young people to visit Santa in his magical lakeside grotto, down by the Adventure Playground.
Book a timed slot when you arrive at the Ticket Office, hop on the Christmas Express that runs between the Courtyard and the Boathouse, enjoy some elf entertainment and perhaps a hot chocolate and a festive treat from the cafe whilst you wait. Make sure you have your Christmas wishes and cameras at the ready when you enter Santa’s magical grotto!
All children can choose a small gift from Santa’s workshop store at the grotto as they leave.
Weekends of 2nd & 3rd, 9th & 10th, 16th & 17th & 23rd December
10.45am – 11.45, 11.45am – 12.45, 12.45pm – 1.45, 1.45pm – 2.45, 2.45pm – 3.45
Each session will open at the specified time on your ticket (eg queue opens at 10.45) You can drop in any time within your hour time slot. Your meeting with Santa will take place within the hour session time slot, but please do dress for the weather and expect to queue outside.
Price: Tickets: £5 per child (additional to usual admission for non-members and children over 4), available on the day from the Ticket Office.
Tickets available on the day at the Ticket Office. No pre-booking online available.

This winter, see York Museum Gardens like you’ve never seen them before! From Thursday 16 November, York will welcome its newest festive attraction, Christmas at York Museum Gardens – a magical, after-dark illuminated walk filled with colour, music and the biggest display of lighting and special effects York has ever seen.
The journey begins in a Christmas Courtyard with a vintage funfair ride, UV face painting and delicious festive fare.
Visitors will walk beneath trees drenched with seasonal colour and discover the ‘12 Frames of Christmas’, a rainbow forest of musical trees and a spectacular projection onto the iconic ruins of St Mary’s Abbey. Along the way children can find hidden Christmas messages in a unique game of UV hide-and-seek.
A specially-commissioned installation by a Yorkshire artist will transform the Museum lawn, and children will be captivated by musical tree stumps at the 14th century Hospitium, Father Christmas in his secret workshop, a display of ever-changing coloured mirror balls and an enchanting 20m tunnel of light.
The walk ends with a dazzling Finale of Fire on the Library lawn, and even the chance to toast your own marshmallows in the Undercroft’s Fire Bar or enjoy a warming mulled wine or hot chocolate.

Santa clearly works hard all year around and especially in December when he somehow manages to find the time to visit all of the especially well behaved boys and girls before Christmas and he tells us that the City Cruises York Santa Experience is the most unique venue that he visits in the city.
Your Santa experience begins as you are welcomed into our Grotto, cleverly hidden away underneath the beautiful Lendal Bridge. Upon entering, the Santa Experience Captain will check all of the children off the special list that we receive from Lapland. If you have any pushchairs, then you are welcome to leave these in the safety of our Reindeer Pen (they will all be away on business with Santa at this time so there will be plenty of room).
You will then be warmly greeted by Santa’s good friend Mary Christmas who will gladly show you to your reserved seating and distribute the magic bells.
And we can’t tell you too much more about what happens next, that would spoil the magic. But we can guarantee that Santa Claus himself will find his way aboard and the whole family will have the most wonderful time on board our Santa Experience in 2017.
Each child will be hand delivered a personalised present from Santa whilst everybody on board will enjoy refreshments, fun and surprises, making this a Christmas treat to remember.
Prebooking required by telephone or via the website.

Jack and the Beanstalk
York’s favourite family pantomime is back!
This year York Theatre Royal will be bringing you the ever popular Jack & The Beanstalk, a family favourite featuring a line-up of much loved panto characters – the big bad giant, Patricia the cow and of course, Jack himself.
They are joined by Berwick Kaler, the nation’s longest running consecutive panto dame who is widely acclaimed to be the best in the land.
The traditional family panto sees the return of Martin Barrass, who has played the dame’s on-stage ‘son’ for more than 30 years but was missing from last year’s Cinderella line-up after being seriously injured in a road traffic accident.
Now fully-recovered, he’ll join other long-time panto stars, including the villainous David Leonard and the ever-youthful Suzy Cooper.
Once again we’ve assembled the theatre’s dream team who will conjure up all that amazing magic and sparkle loved by generations of panto fans.
Berwick Kaler said: “It’s a traditional title with all the freedom and scope to turn it into the funniest version ever inflicted on an audience in search of a plot!”
