We are a small shop and café based on Gillygate in York. Set in the heart of the minster quarter and sitting underneath the historic city walls, Love Cheese is a destination for local and tourist foodies. Our Selection of Continental, British and Yorkshire cheeses have been specially picked to cater for all. From Mild to Strong, Young to Mature, Hard to Soft, we will have something for everyone.

Philip is a milkman.. but in reality he’s offering so much more than that! He’s also passionate about high quality products and reducing plastic waste. As part of the Free Range Dairy Network, he was the first Milk Delivery service in Yorkshire to change to 100% Free Range Milk and still the only one in York. All his milk comes from small, family run farms in the Yorkshire Dales.

As well as free range milk he delivers Oat Milk, free range eggs, fresh orange juice in glass bottles, a selection of cheeses, premium quality butter and a large selection of longley farm products including cottage cheese and yoghurts.

Delivering to all areas in York with the exception of Copmanthorpe. Empty bottles are collected, returned to the dairy and reused.

The Hairy Fig is a speciality food shop selling fine fodder, locally sourced quality foods as well as the very best Spanish, Italian, French, Mexican foods.

The delicatessen at the front is beautifully set out with stock from floor to ceiling with quality produce from York, Yorkshire and Europe. They include a wide range of quality and aged balsamics, olive and other speciality oils, over 40 quality loose teas, fresh coffee beans, blended alcohols, liquorice from around Europe and an impressive range of chocolates and biscuits.

In the deli in the adjacent building, freshly baked breads, pies, pasties, quiches and sausage rolls are sold along with antipasti, cooked meats, pate, chutneys and jams, speciality ingredients and fine cheeses from across Europe and beyond.

The Potions Cauldron is the World’s most magical drinks emporium and serves magic daily on Shambles in York. You can enjoy a potion drink that comes to life if you do the potion spell, or try our TIK TOK famous Spellbound Butterscotch Beer, or you can even mix your own slush potion that comes with magical powers. We also stock many magical items perfect as souvenirs or gifts for a special wizard.

For only £5.99 you can also try our new Potions Experience located in our Secret Potion room and have a potion mixed for you by a Wizard with a few surprises as the room comes to life and you learn the secrets of potion-making! Grown-up Wizards can even try some poison in their potion.

The Potions Cauldron is a York must-visit for wizards of all ages on Shambles, York’s most famous street.

Good to know – The experience lasts 25 minutes and may not be suitable for Wizards under 6 years old or anyone of a very nervous disposition. We are proudly independent gin makers, using traditional and sustainable methods in York’s only distillery. We make some of the world’s best gins – regularly winning top medals at the biggest international spirits competitions. Three of our gins are classics – London Dry, Old Tom and Navy Strength. All three have won major gold medals. The other three are inspired by York’s history – Roman Fruit (Romans), Grey Lady (ghosts) and Chocolate & Orange (chocolate). ‘History in the Tasting’ indeed!

All our bottles and packaging are plastic free and our distillery runs on 100% green electricity. We drive emission-free electric vehicles and buy local wherever possible. All our bottles, packaging and labels are made in Yorkshire. All our gins are made in York.
