Below we have rounded up a range of experts to help you through the different stages of being a parent. From preparing to give birth, to post birth physical and mental care, support on breast feeding, weaning and the sort involving cake!
As an independent midwife, I love relationship based, individualised, home based midwifery care. For me, this means forging relationships with families, frequent home visits with lots of time to get to know each other, time for chatting, involving other children, having a cuppa, talking through worries, hopes, options and supporting informed decisions making.
There is always plenty of time, as my visits usually last around 2 hours. Postnatally is often when the relationship built throughout the pregnancy comes into its own. With my care, daily visits for the first week, three visits in the second week and then roughly weekly visits for the next few weeks until 6-8 weeks after birth, make muddling through the time with a new baby, figuring out feeding, recovery from birth and new family dynamics a lot easier to navigate. Seeing a familiar face you trust and like makes postnatal care reassuring, nurturing and safe.

Hello I’m Sheryl, a paediatric nurse and mum of two toddlers. When I became pregnant, I was fearful and anxious about birth and needed something to help me! Finding a hypnobirthing course was an amazing and invaluable experience where I learnt tools and techniques for pregnancy and life in general. I have become very passionate about antenatal education which has led me to start my own business – Hypnobirthing North Yorkshire.
I teach the Wise Hippo Birthing Programme, a modern and fresh Hypnobirthing course offering all round planning for the birth of your baby. Learn techniques to reduce pregnancy anxiety and fear of birth, becoming an expert in relaxation. Courses are live and online, enabling you to go into deep relaxation in the comfort of your own home. For all parents to be and their birth partners.

Many expectant mums experience a broad spectrum of emotions during pregnancy, ranging from intense excitement to nervous anticipation. For some it is also a time of great anxiety. This can be particularly true if you are experiencing pregnancy after a previous baby loss.
At Reflect we are aware that the excitement of a new pregnancy can also be tinged with other intense emotions. You may feel increased levels of fear and worry, or previous feelings of loss or grief can resurface. It can sometimes help to receive additional support during this time.
Reflect provides one to one support sessions for mums-to-be to help process these feelings. All support sessions are fully confidential and completely free. They are available to anyone who is pregnant following a pregnancy loss.
If this resonates with you, please do get in touch with us, we would love to help.

York NCT Nappy Library is a not for profit washable (cloth) nappy lending service. The service is run by volunteers from York branch NCT. We provide advice and lend washable nappies for trial.
“I’m currently borrowing some reusable nappies from the York NCT Nappy Library and would definitely recommend them as a service to other new mums thinking of using them but not quite sure where to start. From my research, the land of cloth nappies is a complete mine-field in terms of different brands and types, so the nappy library is a great way to try a few without breaking the bank. It’s a free service and you get to borrow a few types and brands for a whole month. They provide you with a wet bag, liners and a couple of vest extenders too to help you get started. It’s been fab for me in helping to find out which ones best suit our family. “
York Sling Library are a volunteer run group dedicated to helping local families find ways to carry their children safely and comfortably.
We are currently offering online support with our experienced, professionally trained, baby-wearing consultant. Our extensive collection of ergonomic slings and carriers has solutions for people of all shapes and sizes, children from newborn to school age (and beyond), and a huge variety of carrying positions. Short term affordable hires, with collection from South Bank, allow you to try solutions before buying from elsewhere.
Providing it is safe to do so we hope to reopen our popular live sessions in September – please keep an eye on our webpage and social media for further details nearer the time.
If you’re new to slings, why not check out the Slings Slings Slings section on our webpage to learn more about the different options available.
