We went along to the Mansion House after School on Friday and had such a lovely experience. York Mansion House have teamed up with York Cocoa House to deliver an immersive Georgian inspired, chocolate Christmas indulgence.
‘T’was the Night before Christmas’ chocolate trail is a great chance for all ages to start feeling festive and enjoy celebrating the Christmas season together with family.
Visitors to the Mansion House will be invited to learn how to craft traditional York confections that were once part of the 18th century festive celebrations. Visitors will create their own Christmas decorations in the historic kitchens of the Mansion House before setting off on a festive trail learning chocolate traditions of York’s Christmas past.
Searching for clues and discovering chocolate displays while exploring the impeccably preserved historic rooms of the Mansion House is a great way to get into the spirit of Christmas while learning about the fascinating history of York’s chocolate making.
Guests will be invited to enjoy the splendour of the Mansion House State Room with luxurious hot chocolate York Cocoa Works. The State Room is historically where Lord Mayors through the centuries have welcomed visitors to York, including Joseph Terry himself, one of York’s pre-eminent chocolate makers. For a truly indulgent treat guests can enjoy ‘wine chocolet’, a Georgian indulgence once recommended for its health properties.
‘Our hot chocolate recipe is based on and inspired by traditional chocolate celebrations, once crafted and enjoyed in destinations like the Mansion House in York and the original chocolate houses.
