She is an incredibly caring teacher who puts the children’s well-being first. She understands how to make the curriculum exciting so children want to learn. During Covid she has been personally delivering food and activity packages to the families that need it. She always goes the extra mile, is supportive of any parent fundraising activity and joins in where she can. My son thinks she is awesome, which is probably the best review.
- She has done an amazing job of running the school as an acting head and has dealt with everything brilliantly
Claire Morris

He puts an amazing variety of ideas on an online platform, that suit all interests, and always gives quick feedback. He’s so dedicated despite trying to home school 3 of his own kids. We think he’s totally fab!!
Danielle Taylor – Toddler Sense York
- Danielle has been amazing. She has just had a new born and has a toddler at home, yet she still ran Toddler Sense Classes AND online classes when we went into lockdown. Her husband and son were such a team, working together as a family (Danielle breastfeeding in between tracks) to make sure my little ones had something to entertain them through lockdown. I am SO grateful to Danielle and all the hard work she has put in!
Dave Godfrey – Number Fun Live
- Dave and his many personas along with Cheeky Monkey made 1/2hr number fun learning exactly that – fun, fun, fun with numbers and daily challenges to encourage my 6yr old to practice her number skills during lockdown.
- Dave has worked tirelessly through lockdown to bring over 50 free youtube videos helping to teach young children Mathematics. Number Fun has run as a business for 21 years. Dave should have been travelling the country as a maths consultant supporting teachings in the classroom whilst being paid but he decided to use his skills to support home schooling and all for free.
- Great online YouTube Number Fun Live Sessions
Donya Keys and Rachel English – En Pointe

- They have been working throughout lockdown with the Key Worker children in many different schools. Some of their staff have been volunteering delivering prescriptions and food to people shielding. Their two managers have gone unpaid to ensure the other staff get paid They are preparing to open their sport camps this summer for children across the area!
- This is my daughters company. They have been working throughout lockdown with the Key Worker children in many different schools. Some of their staff have been volunteering delivering prescriptions and food to people shielding. They are preparing to open their sport camps this summer for children across the area.
- This is my step daughters company – she hasn’t been paid throughout lockdown, so we have been helping her buy food. However, she has been working throughout lockdown with the Key Worker children in many different schools. Some of their staff have been volunteering delivering prescriptions and food to people shielding. They are preparing to open their sport camps this summer for children across the area.
- Kate has been doing personal training sessions during lockdown for me and my family. She has been brilliant conducting over Zoom sessions whilst we exercise around our living room. This has motivated not only myself but younger members of the family. This has been both beneficial for our physical and mental well being. Kate has actually managed to make exercising fun!!!
Kelly Clarey – Pat Veale School of Dance
- From the onset of lockdown PV School of Dance, and our fabulous Kelly Clarey, have continued to run online dance classes for all ages from the comfort of the children’s homes. Thus enabling them to continue to pursue their passion, dance with their friends, express themselves, maintain confidence, spend time with their adored dance teacher, feel valued, supported and loved through this difficult period. We are so blessed to have Kelly and the school helping to keep our childrens’ minds healthy, happy and active when everything else around them is falling away – it can only be of great benefit to them in the future. And #dadsdancingday was fabulous – testimony to Kelly’s draw and children’s adoration of the art form, that had so many Dads dancing with their children in celebration of Fathers’ Day yesterday 20th June 2020!! Kelly is an absolute superstar ⭐
Laura Wingrove – York Suzuki Early Childhood Education
- Laura is a wonderful teacher of all ages and her classes are a gentle, warm, inclusive way of beginning the musical journey of every child, but also developing them as people and offering a friendly, supportive place for parents and carers.
- This class has kept us going throughout lockdown. Laura has put her Suzuki music classes online twice a week completely free of charge, found creative ways to replicate all the musical activities, and also to engage every single child individually. During this difficult time her classes have been a real lifesaver. It’s also been lovely to see the children actually continuing to progress in tiny ways week by week, so it’s been great for their development even though she hasn’t been able to teach in person.
Louise Scam – Manor School
- Making my Y6 daughter feel special and included as she starts the transition to secondary school. By doing everything she could to turn a difficult situation into a good experience we are very grateful

Miss Ekers
Miss Flude
- Miss Flude is a lovely person and a wonderful teacher. She has written weekly emails to all the children in her class, has commented on my daughter’s work daily, often late in the evening after doing a full day teaching at school. She cares so much about all the children in her class and has been supportive to me as a parent too.
Miss Fox – Bishopthorpe Infant School
- For keep a school running during lockdown with 2 of her own children at home.
Miss Green – Clifton with Rawcliffe
- From the moment the schools closed, Miss Green (& the year 1 team) have kept in regular touch with the children in their classes. As well as providing home learning activities & feedback on these, Miss Green has recorded video messages for her class as well as videos of herself (& the other year 1 teachers) reading a variety of stories to their classes. My daughter has loved watching the videos & listening to the stories & it has helped to provide a bit of normality for the children. She has always been there to answer any questions we have had or just to say ‘hi’ when my daughter has sent her a message. This has been in addition to teaching classes in school. The thoughtfulness of Miss Green (& the whole year 1 team) has been very much appreciated.
Miss Heyes – Clifton with Rawcliffe
- Miss Heyes has made a massive difference to my daughter, from the very first day that she moved into her class. She transformed her from a child who didn’t want to go to school at all to a child who happily ran through the door while a smile on her face every morning & was still smiling when she came out at home time! She has made so much progress with Miss Heyes, emotionally as well as academically & this has continued during lockdown when Miss Heyes has provided plenty of home learning activities, feedback to pupils & dojo’s to encourage them. She is always there if we have had any queries & nothing is too much trouble. She has taken the trouble each week to collate photos that we have sent in from home to share with the rest of the class so that the children can see what their friends have been doing. My daughter says that Miss Heyes is “the best teacher in the whole world” & she is certainly one of the loveliest teachers around! My daughter is sad that it is nearly the end of the school year, as she doesn’t want to leave Miss Heyes. Her hard work & kindness has really been appreciated, not just during lockdown but for the whole school year.
Miss Jarvis – Dunnington Primary
- Simply the best online teacher we could have wished for. Video/audio responses to all work within the day, incredible online lessons, never ceasing to be fun or enthusiastic or supportive. Superb.
- Miss Jarvis has worked so hard all through lockdown. She has continued to motivate our children with her wonderful online videos! Her continuous feedback has kept us smiling and motivated through weeks of homeschooling. She really has excelled!
- For providing constant support to both children and parents, always on the end of the phone or e-mail to answer questions. Every week we receive amazing home education resources, videos and stories. She is quick to respond to any work sent to her and its always positive and personal. She truly cares about the children she teaches and is just an incredible teacher.
- Miss Jarvis has been brilliant and creative at engaging the children through home learning.
- Miss Jarvis has been incredible!
- As far as we are concerned the school year didn’t end in March, Miss Jarvis deserves a massive thank you for all her effort with helping and supporting the children.
- Miss Jarvis has been outstanding!
- Well done Miss Jarvis, you have been amazing.
- Miss Jarvis has been great throughout the whole of lockdown.
- Miss Jarvis has done a great job at motivating and making our children smile.
- Miss Jarvis deserves a tonne of praise, she definitely has gone above and beyond.
- Miss J has been amazing!
Miss Marshall – Poppleton Road
- Miss Marshall from Poppleton road has been fantastic! As mentioned above she did her upmost to keep kids at home happy as well as looking after the key worker children at school. Phone calls to check in on us, class zoom calls, reading stories online plus supplying lots of learning material for home schooling and always replying to any queries we may have had. Always was cheerful even when she may have struggled herself.
Miss Newton, Mrs Floyd and Miss Common – Dringhouses Primary
- It is hard to pick just one teacher as all the teachers and support staff at Dringhouses Primary School have been amazing. Miss Newton, Mrs Floyd and Miss Common have been in charge of setting all the home learning work for my children. They are in daily contact with the children and have been so encouraging throughout. If they have questions, these are answered within a few hours and always in such a positive way. They have always added extra fun activities and quizzes each week so the children don\’t get bored and lose interest. The school has been open throughout but they have continued to provide the high level of support even when they took back more children in June. As a family we are so grateful and I would love for them to get the recognition they deserve.
Miss Palmer
- Miss Palmer is my little boys teacher and I can’t thank her enough for reassuring him at the very beginning of all this. He would come home from school and say we didn’t need to worry about the coronavirus as Miss Palmer said Everything will be ok. These children are too little to have to deal with these kinds of times, and she’s been there to reassure them from the beginning. She’s been doing weekly you tube videos on math, English etc for the children to watch at home and we also received a phone call from her this week to make sure we were all ok and to have a little chat with my little boy. I’ll be forever great full that she reassured his little mind from the start and I believe this has a big part to play in why he’s so chilled about the whole situation. Thank you x
Miss Primarolo – Wigginton School
- She is just a super star, all the children love her and is a big asset to Wigginton primary school, my little girl just adores her!
Miss Sarson – Acomb Primary School
- My daughters year 3 teacher has been incredibly supportive during this difficult time. She has young children at home who like so many are struggling to adjust to the new normal, and continues to work from home and also goes into school. The reason I am nominating her is down to her going above and beyond what I expected. She has popped by to offer encouragement (at a distance) as my daughter was finding it hard to work through the work set on Google Classroom, she provided additional and alternative learning tools and followed this up with a further phone call & emails to see how she has been getting on. Miss Sarson has been happy to respond to my many emails of worry and questions and sent through further additional work for us to try at home – all while going through the same things with her children at home too. She has put my mind at rest and helped me feel calmer and in turn this has passed into my daughter.
Miss Sigston – Yearsley Grove Primary School
- Miss Sigston went above and beyond to telephone us at home during lockdown to provide support, information and reassurances prior to my daughter returning to school. Thank you so much!!
Miss Starr – Haxby Road Primary Academy
- Miss Starr has gone above and beyond for the kids in her class. Every single thing we post on the app from our son gets a thoughtful and helpful response almost immediately and always encouraging and praising his (sometimes minimal) efforts! She has called and chatted to my wife and my son, reassuring us through any worries that we weren’t doing enough during this time and supporting him through his anxieties. She reads a story to the children via video every week with enthusiasm & is really helping to keep a sense of normality through the photos and messages to each individual child that she posts alongside setting work on the app.
- this teacher has done a fantastic job of supporting all the pupils in her class. Providing individual support for parents and children who are home schooling whilst also working in school.
- Miss Starr has gone above and beyond for her kids. Every single thing we post on the app from our son gets a thoughtful and helpful response encouraging and praising his (sometimes minimal) efforts! She has called and chatted to both me and my son, reassuring me through my worries that I wasn’t doing enough during this time and supporting him through his anxieties. She reads a story to the children via video every week & is really helping them keep a sense of normality through the photos and messages to each individual child that she posts alongside setting work on the app. She has facilitated communication between the children in the class who are obviously missing each other. She shares their ideas and activities with their class mates to create opportunities and ideas for future learning – for example this week she is collecting hand written recipes from the children who have been cooking and baking at home to create a class cook book. Miss Starr is a Star!
- Miss Starr is like a real life Miss Honey, she is the sweetest most kindest teacher there is. My children miss her so much and cannot wait to get back to school to see her. She is so enthusiastic about everything the children do and full of praise for the parents. She takes time to call the children not just the parents and checks in on them when she knows they are having a tough day. I couldn’t ask for a better teacher for my children.
Miss Tams – Wheldrake withThorganby school
- Miss Tams has gone above and beyond to support children and parents throughout lockdown. She has provided excellent support for children’s learning, and has been in regular contact with parents via email and phone calls. On the re-opening of school, Miss Tams made videos to show children what school would be like and sent personalised video messages to children to say she was looking forward to seeing them. The support Miss Tams has given has been outstanding and the children of Wheldrake with Thorganby school are extremely lucky!
- Fabulous, fabulous teacher, so enthusiastic, encouraging, supportive, positive, understanding, talented and kind!
- She is always checking up on the children, setting them work and fun activities for them to complete. Phoning to check in on the children and us parents too! She uploads different videos of her reading books and doing activities. She’s fantastic and works so hard
- She is just a truly incredible teacher. So kind and caring, giving so many options for home schooling and being generally really wonderful.
- Wheldrake school, in particular Miss Tams of reception have been absolutely AWESOME during lockdown. We are so lucky to have them. Miss Tams works tirelessly and even though she has her own family, she always made sure the children in her class were no affected by their absence at school. She came up with great activities like Story Time with Miss Tams, looking at detail at every submission of work etc, sending personalised birthday messages and videos etc and just coming up with amazing programmes for events such as VE Day etc. Miss Tams was born to be a teacher. Not only is she super professional and inspiring but also so warm with the children and parents. It absolutely is a team effort at the school and everyone is wonderful but Miss Tams’ efforts have stood out! Thank you so much for everything you have done during these extremely difficult times. We are very sad that Dhaneel has missed out of months in your class at school, but we also think she has not missed out nearly as much as a lot of other pupils because of your efforts and we believe you deserve this recognition.
- As well as always being there for our reception children and parents with brilliant teaching, smiles, support & feedback she also set up key kids club at school, worked holidays and generally looked after everybody!!! You definitely deserve a long summer holiday!
- This lady cannot possibly have time to sleep. She goes above & beyond for her students providing extra support for them when it is needed in addition to making their earning fun & engaging. The support she has provided the reception class & their parents during lockdown has been outstanding!
- Always going above and beyond, thinking of the children and parents. Reading stories to children whilst homeschooling via video, sending videos of what school will look like ahead of returning post lockdown. Creative, fun, thoughtful and a happy face despite the pressures.
- Thank you for all your effort in supporting the reception children. You have done so so much to make their home learning to be fun, and exciting and provides feedback every step of the way. Thank you so much.
- Reception teacher at Wheldrake with Thorganby. She has been a super star. The home learning packs that she adapted from her normal planning have made sure that we’ve been able to keep our son engaged (mostly).
- Unwavering commitment to deliver the best for the children in the Reception class. The support you have offered during lockdown has been above and beyond any expectation. You have offered your time, encouragement and a friendly face when it’s been needed most. The children love you. Thank you!
- Nothing has been too much for her. She called me late at night when I was struggling with the decision to let my son go back to school, she has planned thoroughly for children at home and made things easier for us. She has been absolutely amazing and I’m so grateful for her during lockdown.
Miss Waite – St. Paul’s Primary school
- Christie has been Acting Head at St Paul’s School for almost a year, and what a year she’s had to contend with! She’s done it all with humour, grace, strength and a real desire to make the school community of staff, pupils and families one that works together. We love you Miss Waite!
- Christie has taken on leadership of the school in difficult circumstances. Christie has been positive and worked tirelessly to do her best for the staff and pupils at St Paul’s. Having only been activity head for a term and a half she was then hit with a unprecedented situation. I truly admire her for all that’s she has achieved.
- She has been ‘acting head’ during this tricky time and has been so supportive to all the children and maintained professional throughout.
- She has been an outstanding Acting Headteacher for our school this year. The children have thrived amongst uncertainty and the school is going from strength to strength.
- Miss Waite quickly acted up as headteacher at the start of the school term. The challenges that have been thrown at her along the way and she does it all with such positivity and fun for the children.
- She’s doing a fantastic job all round, having to take on the head teacher role during COVID 19.
- Miss Waite has been amazing. As they all have. I would nominate every single one as the compassion they have shown but still professional has been unbelievable. The give their own time and money at all our events that have supported our families at school facing difficult situations. I sometimes wonder if they are ever home! St Paul’s deserves recognition down to the fantastic staff. They are all there for us parents as much as the children. We all have a great relationship, as parents and teachers and they are very approachable. They always have time to care, help, listen and advise. Our village school in the city is a proud place to be but its the staff that make it this way x x x
Miss Wilkinson – Haxby road
- She has such a deep understanding of early childhood development and consistently provides engaging and challenging activities so that her children can thrive in her care. She also really ‘gets’ the impact of home life, pastoral issues and attachment disorders, and uses this to ensure her children get the very best curriculum delivered in the most empathetic way.
- She has made time everyday to post video of phonics and stories to engage my child. She takes time to comment of every activity my child has done at home
Mr Carrigan and Mrs Parker – Robert Wilkinson Academy
- Both members of staff work at Robert Wilkinson primary Academy. They have gone above and beyond to ensure that my boys understand their work, they have both been in touch a number of times and always been at the end of the phone should I need anything. Thank you for being the best teachers during lockdown!
Mr Dambrauskas
- Mr Dambrauskas is an amazing teacher. He is such an enthusiastic teacher who makes the lessons so much fun. He has been able to remind my son how much he loves reading, and allowed him to explore lots of new texts for him to enjoy. My son has loved having Mr D as his teacher for his final year at primary school. He has made it so memorable for him. It’s such a shame it has been cut short, but at least he will treasure so special memories. Thanks for everything.
Mr Edgar – En pointe
- Mr Edgar is hilarious, he has a unique way of teaching his dance students. He has them and the parents in stitches! We love having a male dance teacher who is so in tune with the children and how they learn. He is absolutely fabulous.
Mr Green – AYJS
- Dedicates more than I ever thought possible of a person to his school.
Mr Hattam – Westfield Primary School
- Mr Hattam has tirelessly created Celebration assembly after Celebration assembly since the start of lockdown. I know he hasn’t been on his own and certainly other team members have played big roles in all the videos, but to be honest as a parent I even started to look forward to them myself because of the effort that he was making on camera. So that says something. He has been inspiring in his own way. Thank you! He definitely deserves an award, as does the whole of Westfield team of staff to be honest. They have kept going throughout lockdown and provided support to so many children and their families.
Mr Hodges – Robert Wilkinson primary school
- Loads of feedback work and tons of fun assignments sent out. Top teacher
Mr Jones – St Wilfrid’s RC Primary School
- He has linked the children in his classroom with lots of educational online learning resources and virtual sporting activities. He has motivated them to clock-in weekly miles of physical activities. Classroom online forum very interactive.
- Very enthusiastic and supportive teacher
- An exceptional teacher. Constant support to the pupils during lockdown . Inspire the children he teaches, provides feedback on work in a positive way and has set up a motivating approach to keeping active during this time to ensure the pupils are well mentally. All this plus having three children himself to teach during lockdown. He even posted family tasks/ideas at weekends. Nothing was too much trouble. A true inspiration and we are so thankful for everything he has done.
- Forever giving the children encouragement and support even before the global pandemic. Making sure children receive help, advice and learning. Support also with keeping fit and giving children an education.
- Mr Jones dedication to teaching throughout lockdown has been second to none. Always accessible through online platforms he is also encouraging the children to keep fit, active and mentally healthy through physical activity. His latest challenge ‘working out with Wilf’ aims to get children physically active logging virtual miles weekly to mirror St Wilfrid’s pilgrimage to Rom and back… 3 times. We are treated to weekly videos showcasing the children’s achievements in week as well as a forfeit every time the kids virtually reach Rome. So far he has been doused in freezing cold water and custard pies. It’s really helped bring a smile to my sons face to see his classmates and Mr Jones forfeits.
- Mr Jones from the start of lockdown has engaged, motivated & demonstrated such care for each child’s learning but also their overall well-being. He encouraged children to get involved in the ‘toilet roll challenge’, he produced a video of all children who participated, it put many smiles on many faces. He has worked tirelessly, evening & weekends to ensure a high standard & variety of online learning, ensuring topics of interest for all children. I honestly believe our children got the same standard of education presented to them that they would have got in school. He has set great initiatives to encourage fitness & general well being. Our current challenge is Workout With Wilf. Again, he produces a weekly video with all the children carrying out their physical activity. Each milestone target the children reach, Mr Jones faces a forfeit, thus encouraging the children to get going & also see their teacher get soaked or have custard pie in the face. Finally, Mr Jones has kept a sense of structure, normality & lifted our spirits in such uncertain times. Simply, he deserves this!
- Mr Jones is an amazing teacher. He uses technology to help develop and engage the children. He encourages children to use their own imagination and spin on every piece of work they are asked to produce. They have many different options on how to present any work, which is fantastic as every child has their strengths in different areas like writing, drawing, video etc. He ensure that every child has the same opportunity to learn and present their work, no matter what level of reading etc. He has shown my son different ways, other than righting notes for a price of work. Which can be boring, he has given them the tools to be able to apply the methods that they enjoy and best learn with. He provide so many different class trips to give them as much out of class experiences. Mr Jones also teacher how important exercise is for the body and mind. Each term they are given a class target and their work together and get the reward at the end of it. During Lockdown, Mr Jones has continued to provide work to keep our children interested and motivated. He is provided interactive work, with feed back. Kept the class team spirit by asking for volunteers to read chapters of the book they are working on. And keeping them feel together, with enabling them to present their work to the class. He has Provided video feed back on work they have produced. He has set weekly assignment and recorded himself reading the instruction etc. The personal touch. He is a very committed and hard working teacher. Which a lot of teachers are. Mr Jones works so hard at ensurBig his class and the children of our school, have as many opportunities as possible. He organises so many sporting events in a wide variety of sports to suit everyone. It is every pupil in our schools wish, is to get to be in Mr Jones class.
- Mr Jones has continued to be an enthusiastic teacher in lockdown both in academic subjects and getting the kids exercising, with challenges to get them motivated. He has set class challenges such as ‘Working out with Wilf’ and the toilet roll challenge with some great videos as it went along to get the kids involved. Siblings also joined in so the whole family were engaged. Mr Jones constantly feeds back on work the children have posted in a positive way and has even sent individual videos celebrating pieces of work. The children want to do their best for him as he is an all round star!
- Mr Jones has shown enormous enthusiasm and continued support for the children in his class during lockdown. He has set up an amazing digital platform for all the children to continue their learning during this challenging period. He is also very conscious of their mental wellbeing setting the class physical activities and engaging content to keep them motivated. He recently began a competition called “Working out with Wilf” to encourage the children to keep doing regular exercise during lockdown and has done regular forfeits (sprayed by water hose, pies in his face!!!) a true star and inspirational teacher. The children have loved watching his video updates where he has collated photos and videos of them exercising along with him doing his forfeits as their reward for reaching their goals. Mr Jones also has 3 young children of his own and he still manages to find the time to go above and beyond for our children. The children in his class have been reading a book and submitting work he has set based on it. He has contacted the author of the book to tell her how much the children have enjoyed reading her book. She wrote back and said how happy she was to hear that and asked him if she could see some of their work. Mr Jones collated all their best work and sent it to her. Mr Jones has an amazing grasp of all the latest computer applications and digital platforms, he utilises them in his daily teaching which really captures their imaginations and allows them to present their work in many different ways. This is starting to prepare them for the digital skills they need in the very fast moving world of work. He always sets the children regular goals to achieve and incentivises them with a reward at the end. Usually a class trip. These are just a few examples of the amazing things he has been doing with his class and he really deserves the acknowledgement of Star teacher.
- Great teacher to my son, fellows him up with his work to ensure he is on track. Encourage his students with lots of fun activity. Comment on his students work to encourage them and this helps them to be happy and active with school work even in this pandemic.
Mr Peacock – Wigginton Primary
- Mr Peacock has been great throughout lockdown and has been really encouraging my son with his school work and praising his work when it’s merited. It’s really helped to keep him motivated with the home schooling and also cheered him up, as he’s been missing school and his friends very much. Thanks Mr Peacock! He’s really good at connecting with the kids.
- He is amazing with the homeschooling and aways is contactable.
- Since the schools shut, he has made sure my daughter has had enough work to keep her going, given her praise on work sent in and always marked and commented on each piece she has sent in. Offering extra support if required and just being a great teacher. My daughter had a little cry the other day at the thought of him not being a teacher anymore. Surely that speaks for itself.
Mr Richards – Lord Deramore’s Primary School
- Very caring teacher, always goes the extra mile to help his pupils.
Mr Savage – St Olaves
- Teacher at St Olaves, he has been so supportive during the difficult times
Mrs Armstrong – Poppleton Ousebank
- For the thought and planning that has gone into the weekly activities for the pre-school children at Poppleton Ousebank Primary School. From the many supporting videos and stories to the regular phone calls and suitable weekly materials shared to engage our pre-schoolers at home. Thank you.
Mrs Bloom – All Saints school
- I have been blown away by the dedication and creativity in he teaching for my daughter. She has answered emails, checked in and the lessons included videos which is welcome for a child with dyslexia. She has marked all the work given and feedback has been inspiring. Often she will return a paper with positive feedback but give clues to the errors made in the maths and leave my daughter to redo and check back and correct herself. This is on another level and is teaching her skills for life as well as improving her confidence.
