We spent a brilliant day at the York Mumbler Piglets weekend. It was great to be invited to the Market Place event. We passionately believe that giving children access to technology, software and hardware – in a safe and secure environment – is beneficial for every child’s long term development. We are not just talking about the little kids, we take children from 8 to 18 years. Here a just a few of the wonderful testimonials we received after our recent summer club.
“Just a quick note to say what a great time my 9 year old daughter had last week at the York Maker Hub. I was very impressed with how much she learnt about computer coding over the 3 days she there. She loved the fact that she could both make the machines and program them. She even came back after a full day with you and did some more coding! I am looking forward to receiving the animated cards that she has now learned to program!
Best wishes”

We help children to learn how to write code. They might create an animated game in Scratch, learn how to write script code in Python and operate a waving pumpkin with a Raspberry P: the play involves lots of wires!
“Our daughter thoroughly enjoyed her time at York Maker Hub and with your assistance learnt new coding skills that she is keen to continue improving. She says she ‘really liked finding out how to build and blow things up in minecraft using Python code’. As a working parent I also particularly appreciated the availability of being able to drop her off early at 8.15, which helped me enormously. It was great that the club is able to cater for slightly older children, is tailored to each individual’s interests and is able to stretch and teach them invaluable skills through having fun. We will recommend you to friends and will certainly be back for more. Thank you.”

With us the children can get hands on with technical equipment they may not normally have access to. We use many different programmable medium such as:
Scratch
Crumble Micro controller
BBC Micro:bit
Lego Mindstorm EV3
Gamemaker
Raspberry Pi
Arduino
All technical hardware is provided and each child is encouraged to use their imagination. But writing computer code is only half of the project. Your child can also learn how to connect electronic circuits to micro controllers and make a robotic vehicle that follows a line. Or a remote Lego Mindstrom EV3 ambush vehicle that likes to ambush hands. With the correct hardware and support there is lots for children to do and learn at York Maker Hub.
