Meet Vikings, create your own Viking style carving in clay and discover York Minster’s Viking treasures this half-term as part of the city-wide Jorvik Viking Festival 2019.
Inspired by stone carvings in the cathedral’s Undercroft museum, visitors can drop into the cathedral’s Chapter House to join activities to recreate their own version in clay or carve their names in runes.
Viking re-enactors will also be on hand to play Viking board games and talk about objects from the cathedral’s historic collection which link to the city of Jorvik.
Finish your visit by exploring the Minster’s Undercroft Museum – the only accredited museum in a cathedral in the country – and discover the cathedral’s Viking treasures and history including the Horn of Ulf – a horn carved from elephant’s tusk which was gifted to the Minster 1,000 years ago.
Craft activities cost £2.50 per participant with general admission, which is free for York residents with a valid York Card or proof of address, and all children (aged under-16) go free with a paying adult. Admission to the Undercroft is free with general admission.
