Yorkshire Air Museum – Elvington

The Yorkshire Air Museum is the home of aviation in Yorkshire.

Flying was invented in Yorkshire and we have a Cayley Glider to prove it! This amazing flying machine was invented more than 54 years before the Wright Brothers’ first flight and lives in our main hangar, conveniently with our replica Wright Flyer.

Enjoy a visit of our grounds – former WW2 RAF Elvington airfield. Our nature reserve is coupled with the large outdoor areas on which sit our Dassault nuclear bomber and many other spectacular aircraft to pose with; and in our airy hangar – our Mk3 Halifax Bomber, a tribute to those who flew from this airfield back in WW2.

  • Large outdoor space hosting aircraft on display to explore
  • Expansive hangar holding our Halifax bomber
