The York Mumbler Team – Leanne, Claire, Holly, Emma, Jane, Dawn, Fiona & Agnes
- A special “Rainbow Award” thank you to the York Mumbler website team Leanne, Claire, Holly, Emma & Jane. They are the brilliant team working behind the scenes to keep the York Mumbler website running.
- Also Huge Thanks to the Facebook Group Admins Dawn, Fiona & Agnes who help to moderate the group and keep it a kind, friendly and positive place for local parents.
They have all worked from home throughout the lockdown, whilst juggling their own families & home-schooling. They are a massive support to me on York Mumbler and have ensured that local families can find out everything that they need to know, when they need to know it. It is no exaggeration to say that I’d be lost without them. Their hard work is helping me ensure that the York Mumbler facebook group and York Mumbler website remains a strong community and viable business throughout these incredibly difficult times. Thank you ladies so much x
Love Emily x
Alison Goodwin
- Alison went above and beyond to support local mums while in lockdown. Her yoga classes are always important in supporting us but when everything was uncertain and we had no idea what nhs support we would get she was there listening, sharing and providing free support sessions for imminent mothers. It made an enormous difference to my mental well-being and provided a much needed space to discuss our worries and possible solutions. An absolute hero who prob has no idea the difference she made!
- An absolute god send to impending mothers! Alison’s classes provides much needed support and headspace during lockdown and were a wonderful space for sharing knowledge about the hospital and changes and our fears due to Covid. Alison even provides free support chats for imminent mother’s to prep is for labour and provide a much needed space to discuss and share with one another. She clearly also did this completely out of her concern for our mental wellbeing. Completely altruistic.
Andrew Hyort – Melton College
- Andrew has gone above and beyond what he needed to do to keep as many people as he possibly could on the payroll during lockdown. So I think he deserves an award. He has always tried to do the best he can for his team and I know he has selflessly spent money from his own pocket for several months now to keep as many of us on board as possible. Thank you.
April, Fairytale Dance Parties & Events
- April (Fairytale Dance Parties & Events) offered to do free birthday messages for children who had their birthdays during lockdown. She kindly did messages for both of my daughters & offered a choice of Princesses each time. April put so much thought into the messages to make sure they were personalised & helped to make my daughters birthdays special, which was especially appreciated as their parties could not go ahead as planned. I’m sure she made a lot of other children’s birthdays special during lockdown too. Thank you April!
Bespoke Botanicals

- Thanks Michaela providing your excellent service as usual
Best Western Hotels
- In addition to the business working with the NHS and local authorities through the Coronavirus crisis to provided bedrooms for NHS staff, care workers and lower risk patients. The team at Best Western Hotels head office in Clifton Moor, York wanted to do their bit to help bring a smile to peoples faces during lockdown. Although the office was closed and only a small team were working from home through this period they put their letter writing skills to use and reached out to people who needed cheering up during this difficult time. Personalised letters were sent countrywide with various items such as hand drawn pictures, crosswords etc and resulted in lots of happy and grateful recipients and even some newly established pen friends! Such a lovely initiative!

- Angela god bless her delivering her baskets of joy allowing those of us who couldn’t leave the house to be able to have authentic studio time from the comfort and safety of our homes. And then collecting firing and redelivering our finished items. Made it so easy and a joyful experience. Can’t thank her enough for the lovely mindful weekend painting our princess and fairy. She even chucked in a couple of egg cups for free. Exceptional friendly service. Can’t recommend them more highly. Thank you Angela xxx

Thus enabling them to continue to pursue their passion, dance with their friends, express themselves, maintain confidence, spend time with their adored dance teacher, feel valued, supported and loved through this difficult period. We are so blessed to have Kelly and the school helping to keep our childrens’ minds healthy, happy and active when everything else around them is falling away – it can only be of great benefit to them in the future. And #dadsdancingday was fabulous – testimony to Kelly’s draw and children’s adoration of the art form, that had so many Dads dancing with their children in celebration of Fathers’ Day yesterday 20th June 2020!! Kelly is an absolute superstar ⭐
Puddle Ducks Swimming
- I would like to nominate my amazing team of staff and all of our wonderful customers for a Mumbler award, as despite these strange and stressful times, their loyalty and dedication have bought us all closer together and more determined to cherish every moment now and in the future. On the 18th March we took the difficult decision to suspend all classes for the safety of our staff and customers and we have missed them all so much. Despite the complexity of their own individual situations, the staff members have always gone the extra mile in supporting me and their colleagues and customers. We are in touch on a regular basis, sharing advice or information, even including ways of surviving home schooling! They have been so inspirational in creating videos and sharing snippets of their family life such as clapping for the NHS and key worker heroes. I feel so humbled and grateful to my wonderful team and I know we will come back stronger than ever. I thank my customers from the bottom of my heart for their patience and understanding and most of all, for their loyalty and we can’t wait until it is safe for us all to return.
Rachael Harrison- Children & Family Worker, Harton Benefice
- Fantastic community supporter.
- Rachael has done so much for so many children across our community from setting up weekly zoom calls to keep school friends safely in touch to running Messy Church online to making up and delivering beautifully thought through and constructed activity bag to all the families in the benefice. All of this whilst supporting the primary school as a very active governor and doing homeschool for a y6 and a teenager. She’s always smiling and an absolute superstar.
- Rachael is an absolute rainbow of light. She is an integral part of our community bringing people together at every age level. During lockdown she has supported so many different people. She has run remote pray and play sessions for the under 5’s, organised zoom calls and activities for school children, and delivered crafts to children in 14 villages! She promotes young farmer activities for the secondary age children, has plans to run a youth club and is a super friend to many parents and other adults. She also supports activities at the local care home… so much and probably more I don’t even know about! Everybody should have a Rachael looking after them, she brings the whole community together, which has proved crucial during these challenging times.
- Rachael usually leads and organises our messy church sessions which obviously had to stop when coronavirus hit. However she continued to provide support to families locally using virtual platforms, delivering packages of games and materials to support families learning and playing at home.
Rachel Smith
- The Business Grower Providing support for women in business, encouraging them to adapt and finding new ways to run their business. Her support is gentle, consistent & inspirational.

Fabulous community spirit and support.
Stoots Kitchen
- Offered seeds and plants for free for local families to collect on their daily walk. Kath was keen to spread her love of plants to her community.
The Balloon Tree
- The balloon tree is one of our favourites in terms of breakfast and a play date. And of course while we are there the farm shop is a must. We were sad when it closed due to the virus. But delighted when we could do our drive through order for the lovely produce. However the most exciting thing was when they opened PYO strawberries! Every year we love to go pick strawberries have lunch in the cafe and play in the park. Although we couldn’t go to the cafe we took a picnic, had hot choc and of course delicious hours socially distanced strawberry picking. It was so well organised and we had an amazing time!
Tiny Tumblers
- Normally when school is out Tiny Tumblers do little pop up soft play. Obviously with the current situation that is not possible. Tiny Tumblers have been amazing! For a company that specialises in parties and pop up soft play they have gone above and beyond by putting activities on their Facebook page, sent out little craft packages for children with certificates to say they have passed the lockdown, and they have done that for free just out of the goodness of Emma’s heart! It’s just been a really lovely touch They have even managed to set up slumber party/soft play kits for parents/children who’s parties have had to be cancelled so that children don’t miss out!
- They provide fantastic soft play equipment for children’s parties including ball pools, play tents and bouncy castles. The equipment is available to hire but Emma also provides a party package for people to keep which includes a ball pool. For slightly older children you can have a slumber party which consists of tepees, soft cushions and everything you need for a kids sleepover with a difference. All equipment is regularly deep cleaned and is delivered and set up by the bubbly Emma.

- For providing invaluable support to all “inspirational” families in the York area.
- Ruth and her team run a forum online for other parents to talk to one another and offer help and advice . They set up brilliant events that all children with additional needs an their siblings can get involved in where there wouldn’t otherwise be the opportunity. They run Sports clubs for kids that embrace additional needs and are a welcoming place. There’s so much more that they do that I’ve not covered but they give hope and enjoyment to often very weary parents, and a whole host of opportunities to children who otherwise would miss out.
- They provide really useful help and support to many vulnerable children and their families.
- Throughout the lockdown YIK have been proactively supporting families with children with additional needs – providing teen chat groups with weekly challenges, advice & support for both mental & physical well being for both children & adults & most importantly continuing the invaluable parents/carers chat group to enable us to let off steam, ask for advice & generally support each other & learn from each other as we navigate through all aspects of parenting/caring for young people with additional needs. This is a very special charity that offers help & support to anyone that needs it.
