Gentle Beginnings during lockdown 2021.
Gentle Beginnings – popular, small, calm and supportive groups for parents and babies up to toddling
During this new lockdown we will be meeting online on Tuesdays and Thursdays 11-12am. You sign up and can choose each week whether you join us on a Tuesday or Thursday (life happens!) Although we can’t meet face to face we are forming a supportive parent community where we can nurture and enjoy our growing relationship with our baby and discover the amazing and so important self- initiated movement and play in the first year of life.
These highly regarded groups, which I have run for 11 years now in York, offer a calm supportive space for mums/dads and infants from birth to 18 months old. The groups provide a place where you can gain confidence and trust in your abilities as a parent, learn about the amazing Pikler approach, the benefits of slow parenting, and make new friends. Parents usually stay with the group for a year to 18 months and make deep friendships that last way beyond the group life. You can find out more about the groups and my experience and other work on the website link below.
Come and join us for a free first session!
I also offer online one to one support sessions to new mums and dads if this would be helpful.
And please email me or phone me if you would like more information.
“I would never have thought that a yoga class could be so welcoming, friendly and helpful – and the fact it’s been virtual during such a difficult year is totally amazing.”
Hi, I’m Alison, I’ve been teaching Pregnancy Yoga for 14 years. Creating connection and community is really important to me and I’m here to support you every step of the way. Yoga helps you enjoy a healthy pregnancy, easing aches and pains and feeling great in your body, with time and space to reflect and prepare. You might be planning a hospital birth, home birth, maximum pain relief, minimal intervention – all are welcome here. I also offer lovely nourishing post-natal yoga for you and your little one, to support you through your first year.
We can adapt all the practices to suit individual needs, or come and sit, lay down, breathe and be in the company of other mums and mums to be. Everyone is welcome to take what they need.
Why not book a £5 trial week – a Sunday and Wednesday, consecutive classes, via zoom.
Baby Band music classes offer a safe, supportive and fun musical experience for you and your little people.
Baby Band is all about playing real instruments, learning musical elements and experiencing great examples of music from a huge variety of genres, not just singing along to basic nursery rhymes (although we do love some of the classics). We have a team of live musicians who regularly join us with their various instruments to give our Baby Band members a taste of live music because there is nothing as magical as seeing and hearing music being created in front of your very eyes.
Classes are available for children from around 3 months to when they start school and are bookable all year round, not just term time. Visit the website for more details on locations, the team, the musicians, the music and how to book. You can find us on social media too @babybandmusic.
There are stacks of research papers proving how beneficial music is to the early development of language, emotional understanding, motor skills and so much more. Join us at Baby Band and give your little one a musical head start in life.
At Baby Swimmers we follow the Starfish Awards, so little ones can gain water confidence and build a foundation to swim unaided in the future. We play games and sing songs which are skill related and also teach water safety skills so they can learn to swim back to the side, hold on and climb out when they are strong enough.
Our structured classes work towards this and are also fantastic for bonding with your little one, as well as enjoying yourselves in a fun relaxed atmosphere, which we always ensure is at your little one’s own pace including underwater swims. Babies use their natural reflexes when they are in water, so it is always a good idea to start as soon as you can, as swimming is a great workout and helps to strengthen their muscles and also increases alertness.
For toddlers we follow the STA Stanley Awards, so again little ones can gain water confidence and build a foundation to swim unaided. For this age group we still sing songs and have fun with games and also start to teach the basic strokes, continuing with water safety skills and teaching your toddler to hold on, turn, then push off the side to swim to you independently. Classes will focus on floating, learning to tread water, rolling, push and glides, diving for sinkers and more.
Swimmers Academy is for our older swimmers where we focus on stroke technique and stamina, classes run for any age from Beginners and go through to Gold also incorporating Lifesaving Awards.
All teachers are fully qualified with specialist training for your little ones. Our classes are child led to ensure each child is taught and developed at their own pace.
We Swim at Best Western Kilima Hotel, New Earswick Pool, Pocklington School, Robert Wilkinson Primary School, Roko & Stamford Bridge Junior School

What Would Your Baby Like To Say?
Babies use all kinds of signs and gestures as a natural part of learning to talk; think of the delight we have when they learn to point, wave or blow a kiss! Encouraging your baby with extra signs like ‘milk’, ‘more’, ‘change nappy’ or ‘tired’ will help your baby communicate more easily. Developed with the help of Speech and Language professionals, Sing and Sign classes utilise music and songs, props and rhymes in fun sessions that makes learning to baby sign both easy and fun!

Helping families get a better night’s rest!
Hi I am Sophie, a Certified Sleep Consultant through Sleepy Lambs. This is what inspired me to help families sleep better through giving them the skills and confidence to help their little ones have a better day and nights rest.
I offer a kind, understanding and gentle approach to help you get to where you want to be with your child’s sleep. I look at what will work for you as a family to ensure that you are comfortable and confident throughout the process.
Throughout the duration of your chosen package you will have daily communication on top of the initial 90-minute consultation and weekly catch up support calls when you need them.

Swimming with Linzi is all about having fun in a safe environment whilst gaining water confidence and developing great stroke technique.
I am a small independent STA swim school; I live in Sheriff Hutton and I set up my swim school after training and teaching my own children to swim many years ago. I realised then that the whole goal to swimming success is fun!
I offer baby, toddler and pre-school lessons at Carr Junior School in Acomb, York, from 1 month old to 4 years from nurturing baby classes right through to stroke development: Monday, Thursday and Friday mornings from 9.30-12.00 pm
I also run after school classes at Robert Wilkinson School, Strensall, York, for beginners through to more advanced, once again encouraging water confidence which leads to improved stroke technique: Monday , Tuesday and Wednesday3.30-6.30 pm
I like to get to know all the children individually and adapt my teaching to suit every child. Your child will be enabled to happily progress at their own pace. All swimmers receive a STA certificate, as well as a woven badge, these are included in your fee.
Classes are fun based and relaxed with only 6 children in each class, only 1 lesson running at a time and the whole pool to ourselves, so we have lots of space. In this environment I find my swimmers really enjoy their lessons and thrive learning to swim following the progressive STA guidelines and being COVID safe.
I have over 15 years of swimming teaching experience and I am a fully qualified STA Swimming Instructor, STA baby and pre-school teacher. I hold a Level 3 STA Diploma in Aquatic Teaching for Baby and Pre-school, STA lifeguard certificate and have DBS clearance. I’ve also recently received STA COVID-19 Safety Officer Certificate.Do have a look at my facebook page for more info or get in touch.
Tiny Diggers is back – Archaeology-themed meet-up and play at DIG!
One of York’s most exciting meet-and-play opportunities for parents, babies and toddlers is back – and has been extended into the summer! Tiny Diggers, run at DIG: An Archaeological Adventure in St Saviourgate, is an exciting way to learn and play with other children, offering sensory play fun for 0-4 year olds – and a chance for parents to socialise – with exclusive morning access before the award-winning attraction opens to the public.
Dedicated sessions run for babies and toddlers – given tiny archaeologists who can walk their own space – with guided themed activities during each session, as well as free coffee and biscuits so that parents can recharge their batteries, too!
Babies (pre-walking 0-2) – Mondays 9am – 10am
Toddlers (walking/2-4) – Fridays 9am – 10am
The sessions will not be taking place during half-term or Summer holidays
Sessions are £5 per child (an accompanying adult goes free), booked in blocks of four, with tea, coffee and biscuits available for parents as their young ones play. Parents can mix and match days and sessions according to what suits their needs. Each hour-long session gives children a chance to play in a safe, tactile environment which uses textures found in archaeology to introduce touch-based play.

Tiny Toes Music
Tiny Toes Music is all about you and your baby, toddler or child playing and making music together and enjoying the magic of being surrounded by live music. Babies and children love songs, rhythms and music and benefit greatly from a musical environment. Music affects the physical, emotional, and intellectual development of babies and children and strengthens cognitive and sensory development.
But most of all, Tiny Toes Music is fun for all!
Teeny Tiny Toes Music
Teeny Tiny Toes Music is a brand new music and singing group for new parents and pre-mobile babies from newborn.
When we sing to our babies, the following wonderful things happen – we bond, we play and have fun, we develop language and listening skills, we learn to recognize names and ease transitions e.g. you will learn songs for waking, sleeping, eating and even pooing!
All the above boils down to using your singing voice, doing actions, signing and making music as a way to express love and joy. Your baby will not care in the slightest if you are a great singer or not. They only care that you are singing to THEM! In their eyes and ears, you’ll be a super star!

York Suzuki Early Childhood Education offers weekly music classes for children aged 0-3, with their caregiver. They are a chance to come together to celebrate the unlimited potential of every child. Our classes offer a calm, structured, nurturing space to engage with your little one through music.
The classes are run by trained SECE teacher, Laura Wingrove, who has over 10 years’ experience of teaching through the Suzuki method. Class sizes are small to allow each and every child to flourish and caregivers are supported at every stage of the journey. We use the beautiful SECE curriculum of nursery rhymes and action songs which is based on the teaching philosophy of renowned pedagogue Shinichi Suzuki. Although many musical concepts are mastered within the classes, it was not Suzuki’s primary aim to create master musicians, but rather ‘human beings with beautiful, harmonious minds and high sensitivity’. We believe that by using the highest quality musical instruments, children are given the earliest opportunity to appreciate beauty, to treat the instruments with respect, and to play them properly, creating a beautiful sound themselves.
