If you’re new to the area, looking to move here or an existing resident we hope you find our guides useful.
In 2018 York was awarded the accolade of “the best place to live in Britain” by The Sunday Times newspaper. It’s got shopping, history, good transport links and you can be in the open countryside in just minutes.
If you are looking for somewhere family-friendly to live within a stone’s throw of this historic, vibrant city, the good news is that you can’t go far wrong. Browse our guides of York area by area and we will give you an insight into some of the hottest spots for families, according to the Mumbler community.
First, you need to decide your family’s priorities. Try discussing the questions below with your partner and children.
Once you’ve narrowed down your choice, spend some time in your shortlisted area. Visit any shops, parks or pubs and restaurants. Why not test out the local transport – for example, how long does it take to get into the city centre on the bus?
Check out the local schools and review the catchment areas. Are there plenty of other families with similar aged children already living in the area you like?
Spend at least half an hour wandering around. See how close you might be to the things that matter to you, such as the local shops, the library and the bus stop. It’s also worth visiting at different times of the day, like rush hour or at a weekend to see how different it seems.
This is where we have done all the hard work for you.
