Inspire Your Children and Foster a Lifelong Love of Film at York’s Film Festival
The 13th annual BAFTA-Qualifying Aesthetica Film Festival runs from 8-12 November. The programme includes three incredible selections of Family Friendly films and exciting workshop opportunities designed to help young people develop filmmaking, gaming and printmaking skills.
Family Friendly Film Screenings
Films are for everyone. Aesthetica presents variety of one-hour screenings suitable for younger audiences. Each contains six short films, exploring universal themes and experiences such as determination, embracing one’s own identity, and the value of family and friendship. Screenings are segmented for young audiences aged 4-10, 7-10 and 10-16.
Gaming & Filmmaking Workshops
Alongside film screenings, children and young people have the opportunity to attend workshops with creative professionals. These events are designed to cater for two age groups, 7-10 and 11-14, and take place across the weekend of 11-12 November. Children can learn to direct, edit and make their own films and learn coding skills, which will enable them to create their own video games.
Additional Events for Younger Audiences
Other events suitable for younger audiences include Experience the Magic of Printmaking at StreetLife, and Toy Stories, in which those aged 7–14 will work with XR Stories to make their favourite toys come to life using motion capture technologies.
Exhibitions
There are also 3 exhibitions running throughout the Festival – a Film Poster exhibition at StreetLife, a photography display at City Screen, and Inside (Out), an immersive sound installation at Bedern Hall.
#YorkDays – York Residents save 50% on screening passes. Please note that pre-booking for all workshops is essential. For all events listings, and to book a place, click here.
