Meadow Keepers’ Scythe Fest

September 9, 2017 @ 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Unleash your inner Poldark! Meadow Keepers, St Nicks’ York-wide grassland management project funded by the Heritage Lottery, are inviting you to their inaugural event at the Millenium Bridge Fields. St Nicks has helped Urban Buzz York to increase the variety of wildflowers growing in the meadows there and now we want to ensure that the area keeps on buzzing with pollinators as well as local people enjoying the display. Come along to see the difference made so far and enjoy:
scything taster sessions and demonstrations – scything is a traditional technique for mowing grass which is better for wildlife, a great exercise and low carbon as well as quiet way of maintaining meadows. Come and give it a go!
grab a chance to learn from an expert on a 2 hour intensive scythe session led by experienced tutor Jonathan Dent – booking essential to avoid disappointment (see more info below)!
advice on grassland management for wildlife
wildflower seed sowing – including seed bomb target practice!
seed collecting and sharing
scarecrow competition
bug hunts and nature walks
storytelling and craft activities

Other fun activities and light refreshments available throughout the day.
Entry: Free, all ages welcome. Just turn up for some or all of the day! To book a 2 hour training session, please use the booking form below or call 01904411821. If the first session fills up, we’ll arrange another one later in the day
