Murton Park – Celebration of the Women’s Land Army

October 7, 2018 @ 10:30 am - 3:30 pm

Celebration of the Women’s Land Army

Sunday October 7th
10:30 – 15:30

Have you got what it takes to join the Women’s Land Army?

We are looking for strong young people (yes boys no escaping the work) to help feed the nation as the Women’s Land Army did throughout World War Two.

If you are brave enough take an application form and complete a list of jobs as members of the Women’s Land Army. The will include: loading sacks of wheat on to wagon, transporting milk churns, working on the ‘Dig for Victory’ allotment, getting the stables ready for the horses, polishing the horse’s tack, washing clothes using a mangle.

Once you have completed these important jobs you’ll receive a certificate showing that you can join the Women’s Land Army.

You will also have the rare chance to handle authentic WLA objects from our museum collection.

Finally we are delighted to welcome Emma Clayton of Blood Memory Dance and her dancers from Contemporary Dance for Grownups to Murton Park for the first time. They shall be performing a contemporary physical dance entitled ‘Threshing’ portraying 1940’s Women’s Land Army.

‘Threshing’ has been adapted from Clayton’s professional dance commission ‘Violet’. The work captures the memories of 92 year old Violet who served in the Women’s Land Army. The project was funded by HAVA Big Local and Arts Council England.

All of this is included in your standard museum admission.
