The Free and Cheap extended so travelling by bus will be really cheap all year – including this Easter Holidays!
This means:
🚌 Adult fares are from as little as £2
🚌up to 3 Under 16’s travel for free with each paying adult (this can be a parent, grandparent or carer)
🚌 Young People (under 18) travel for just £1 around York
🚌 Family Fare tickets are reduced to £5.50 meaning 2 adults and up to 3 children can travel all day, on any operator, any number of journeys
Catching the bus isn’t just cheaper, it makes it so much more fun and hassle free. It’s also often much quicker – There are many bus lanes around York so you can get to where you’re going much quicker and avoid the traffic!
If you live further afield, why not travel into York by train or Park & Ride, then buy an All York ticket and explore from there?
Snook Trail
Starts at the recently reopened Poppleton Bar Park and Ride – encounter one of the 21 Snooks scattered across the city.
Follow the trail into the City Centre by getting on the Number 9 or Number 59 (On a weekday you can catch the Number 59 from 9.25am) run by First and take a captivating journey through York’s historic cobbled streets and hidden gardens as you go.
Then head home in the afternoon, catching the No.59 from Outside the National Railway Museum at 3.56pm if you need to head home early, or 6.30pm at the latest.

City Centre
Plenty to visit and see in the city centre – why not catch the bus in from one of the neighbouring villages to visit the Yorvik Viking Centre, the National Railway Museum, York’s Chocolate Story or Clifford’s Tower.

York Minster
York Residents visit the Minster for free when you show proof of address with a postcode on.

York Air Museum
The Number 36 bus (Pullman) from York railway station (picking up in Fulford and Wheldrake along the way) – makes it easy to reach the York Air Museum from the centre of York, or pick up the route as it goes through town.
On a weekday, you could catch the 11.15am from the train station, arrive at the museum by 11.47am. If you’ve only got time for a quick visit, catch the 2.28pm home but if you’ve got all day to spend, take the 5.08pm home.
Rowntree Park
4 min journey to Rowntree Park via bus – from the Railway Station – Number 11 or Number 59.
Park has now reopened and there’s plenty to see and do – including café, skatepark, tennis courts and playground.

If you’ve got teenagers keen to discover the city without you, they only pay £1 each journey. The Cinemas are really easy to access – They can get to the City Screen in town, Cineworld at Monks Cross, Vue at Clifton Moor or Everyman. They can also easily get into town or to the shopping centres just around the ring road easily by bus.
