Kids love any occasion to dress up so don your sparkly dresses or dressing up outfits, grab some party hats, funny props and set up a selfie photo booth to snap some family memories. You could even make some of your own party props, print off our FREE design your own Photo Booth Props sheets!
Turn the lights off, grab some glow sticks and get the tunes on! Nothing like a bit of dancing to tire the kids out. How about teaching them some Macarena or Saturday Night dance moves?
Get Youtube on the TV and you have karaoke at your fingertips! Have everyone take turns or perform some family singsongs together.
You could make some little tickets, sort out some snacks (sweets / popcorn /nachos), close the curtains and no one will know any different! There’s still time to squeeze in a Christmas film, or Netflix/Sky etc have plenty to pick from, or maybe there were some DVD gifts for Christmas? Enjoy!
New Year’s Eve is a great chance to play some traditional party games with all the family. The kids absolutely love the opportunity to have fun with the grown-ups!
Memory Game – Arrange 10-15 random, small items on a tray and let everyone have a look at them for 30 seconds. Take the tray away and secretly remove one of the items, when you return whoever guesses what is missing gets to have a go next at removing an item! Add the removed item back to the try and this game can go on and on and on….
Pass the parcel – instead of sweets on each layer why not put a fun dare on each layer: Pretend to be a monkey for 10 seconds, Find something yellow in 10 seconds, Tap your head and rub your belly for 10 seconds etc.
Musical statues / bumps / chairs – a good one for getting everyone on their feet dancing.
Family Time Capsule: A fun activity to do as a family on New Years Eve! Grab a shoe box or a large, concealed container. You can each put some special items inside with special memories, family photos, pictures, hand or foot prints, pieces of string that matches your heights (don’t forget to label them), perhaps complete the ‘Interview with the kids activity (below) and the Family Time Capsule quiz. Decide how long you are going to leave it before you next open it. It could be next New Year’s Eve, 5 years or even 10 years! Just ensure that whatever you put inside won’t perish during that time. Download our activity sheet HERE.
Interview with the kids: Print off our interview sheet and find out some interesting facts about your kids this New Year’s Eve. This is a really fun activity to do together but also if you keep hold of the answers and let them read them the following new year, and the year after that… they are great to collect and share every year!
Start a 2024 family memory jar: A great way to collect memories over 2024 that can be shared on New Year’s Eve 2024 to remind everyone what a wonderful year you have had! Simply set up a big jar or box and label the Family Memory Jar. Throughout the year all members of the family can write down special memories on pieces of paper and add it to the memory jar. At the end of the year sit together to read them aloud.
