Barley Hall is a picturesque medieval townhouse tucked away down one of the oldest streets in York. Join a National Trust Easter egg hunt trail this school holiday. Follow the 10 adventure points around Beningbroughās garden; how low can you limbo? Let your imagination roam in the storytelling den, have a go at hula an try your hand at egg rolling. āPortals into the Pastā entitles the second trail, which is packed with information about the history of the town and we had chance to have a little look, but would love to return another day to take in the details of the trail.Ā Here you can uncover Northallertonās hidden stories of fascinating people, places and events, including the Town Hall and Shambles, the Rutson Hospital, Register House, and the original site of Northallerton Grammar School before it moved to Grammar School Lane and then became Northallerton College.Ā This would be a great trail for schools to use as part of a local history project.

Start your Easter adventures this school holiday with the National Trust. Each 10-point trail has nature themed challenges around a Yorkshire garden near you. Pick your nearest or head further afield, with many running over two weeks, you could try a few.
In North Yorkshire pick from Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, Beningbrough, Ormesby Hall, Brimham Rocks and Nunnington Hall. In West Yorkshire head to Nostell and East Riddlesden Hall, and further south visit Wentworth Castle Gardens.
Prices are Ā£3 per trail which includes an Easter trail sheet for that garden adventure, bunny ears to make and wear and a dairy or vegan and Free From chocolate egg prize at the end. Normal admission charges apply to each place, or free to National Trust members and under-fives.

WHICH HOUSE DO YOU BELONG TO?
Are you a Wizard, Serpent, Unicorn or Basilisk? Come to the Hole in Wand to play 9 magical holes of Wizard golf this Easter to find out.
Each player will be placed into one of our four houses. Wizards possess wisdom and use their knowledge for the common good, whilst those with cunning and a darker side will be in our Serpentās house. Unicorns are elusive, mysterious and untameable and if you are an indomitable warrior with a potentially destructive nature, you will be picked as a Basilisk. After conquering 9 holes of Wizard Golf, you will be presented with the signature potion of your magical house.

Take the little Vikings to discover Yorkās Viking legacy at the award-winning JORVIK Viking Centre. Hop aboard our time capsule to 10th-century York and take in the sights, sounds and even the smells ā including rotting fish and cabbages (pee-ew!)- of the Viking Age city. Dig deeper into the Viking story of York by getting close-up with a rare collection of 1,000-year-old-artefacts whilst talking to friendly Viking hosts. Why not ask them what a Viking would go on an Easter egg trail & scoff chocolate?
This Easter you can see the Herefordshire Hoard at JORVIK.
Loaned to York Archaeology from Herefordshire Council, the Hoard is well known for being discovered in 2015 by metal detectorists near Leominster. It is believed that 90% of the hoard has been illicitly sold on the black market, with the perpetrators since sentenced to over 23 years in prison.
The Herefordshire Hoard currently consists of 29 silver coins, unique gold jewellery, a remarkably well-preserved rock crystal pendant and a single silver ingot
This incredible hoard will be available to view at JORVIK Viking Centre until Summer 2024.
Our Lambing Experiences are the real deal, weāre not the commercial kind youāll see at many places, 0ur groups are small and we want you to value a smaller quieter experience.
Each year we offer Lambing Experiences to the public during the Lambing Season. Itās a chance for you guys to get hands on and experience life in the lambing sheds!
Our pregnant mother sheep will be giving birth to their baby lambs, itās a special time of year and an experience not to be missed!

Two Houses, One Story: Yorkās Forgotten Women
A collaboration between the Bar Convent and Fairfax House

This exciting collaboration explores the intertwining story of two Catholic houses; one a secret convent operating a pioneering school for girls, the other belonging to a prominent local Catholic family.
Recently discovered documents, beautiful portraits and intriguing artefacts give new insight into the day to day lives of these exceptional local women. It will explore how they navigated their faith during an era of persecution and suspicion, and how some were linked to dangerous underground activity which ultimately aided the survival of the Catholic faith in York and beyond.
PLUS visitors of all ages are invited to search the displays to find the items left to the Bar Convent in Lady Hungate’s ‘unofficial’ will; can you find the ‘Scarlet Cloth Cloack’, ‘wood box of Reliqes’ or ‘Armād Chair & Green Cusshion’?!

This is a brand new Family friendly Character trail in York and Mumbler is proud to be āFosteringā of one of the Snook character sculptures (along with City of York Council fostering team)!
The York Snooks Trail from Make it York will be on for 8 weeks from early March until 25th April 2024 and will be in full swing over the Easter Holidays.
This trail, made in support of St Leonard’s Hospice, will take you on a captivating journey through York’s historic cobbled streets and hidden gardens. Prepare to be enchanted as you encounter 21 Snooks scattered throughout the city. These unique sculptures, sponsored by local businesses, have been brought to life by talented artists. Each Snook has its own identity and style – which one will capture your heart?
The free trail maps will be available from York Visitor Information Centre on Parliament Street or can be downloaded online prior to the event via the link below. The trail is FREE to do and the immediate City Centre trail will take around 2 hours, with sculptures further afield in addition to this.

Thereās plenty for families to do this Easter at the Yorkshire Air Museum!
We have our Hidden Harriers Trail ā search the museum for H the Harrier Jump Jet, our new mascot. There are ten Hs hiding around the museum, each one with a letter attached. Collect them all and unscramble the letters to form a word and get an āHā the Harrier sticker.
We also have Buccaneer Day on April 6th, marking 30 years since this Yorkshire-built jet left service in the RAF. Our three āBuccsā will be on display side by side, with one them doing a live engine run! Included with admission.

Take an epic journey back through 11.000 years of Yorkshire’s history to a time when Britain was joined to Europe. Discover more about the earliest homes in Britain and the families who settled there and help us to name the Star Carr dog.
