The award-winning farm shop and café specialises in locally grown produce, including fruits, vegetables, and rare breed meat. Their in-house bakery provides homemade scones, cakes & traybakes for the shop and the café, with their chefs providing a range of delicious meals, sandwiches and seasonal specialties for the café.

The Balloon Tree is a great day out for all of the family – their Pick Your Own seasonal runs throughout the Summer, giving you the opportunity to hunt for the biggest strawberries, raspberries, and even pumpkins in the October season! Don’t forget you can even come and find your perfect locally sourced Christmas Tree in December.

Entertain the children in the play area, situated in the securely fenced café garden, so you can enjoy a cup of coffee & homemade cake, whilst they burn off some energy.

Their delicatessen counter serves a wide range of sausage rolls, quiches and sandwiches – all from local businesses. They even have a hot counter where you can grab a warm luxury black pudding sausage roll, or if you’re really hungry a hot pork sandwich with apple sauce, stuffing and crackling!

Tucked away behind bustling Goodramgate lies one of York’s true hidden treasures.
Once the dining hall of the medieval Vicars Choral of York Minster, Bedern Hall is now open to share stories from an eclectic mix of over 700 years of history!

• Learn about the lives of the Vicars and during your visit discover archaeological finds from Bedern and information about guild life in York
• View our amazing scissors beamed roof – the reason the Hall became a Listed Building and was saved from demolition.
• Visit our Café. Our courtyard café and covered garden terrace provide tranquility in the heart of the city. We also offer indoor seating. Enjoy coffee and cake or a glass of wine with a savoury treat.
• Enjoy a traditional Yorkshire afternoon teas in York’s hidden ancient hall & Why not try our homemade lavender scones?!

Come and visit our Cupcakery where we hold cupcake decorating tea parties, make birthday cakes to order, and serve afternoon tea (booking required).

We are super child friendly and offer mini hot chocolates, pink milk and mini cupcakes for the little people! We also have a changing table, high chairs and are breast-feeding friendly too.

ℹ️ Good to know: This cafe is just in front of Chapmans Pond. A nice little walk and place to feed the ducks. As well as indoor, There is also outdoor seating with a canopy.

The perfect afternoon tea combines savoury and sweet treats. Ours honours that noble tradition but brings playful flavours together to give it a twist for today. Served in The Marmalade Lounge at No.1, our dainty sandwiches, canapés, scones and cakes are all made using fine British ingredients. And a glass of English fizz goes just as well as a pot of tea.

And, when the sun shines on York, people go picnicking in the park. So, why not let us fill a hamper with our best freshly made goodies and lend you a blanket so you can picnic like a local?

With many serene, green spaces, such as Dean’s Park right next to The Minster or The Museum Gardens just a 5-minute walk away from the hotel, a lovely, long, lazy picnic is one of the best ways to enjoy York’s charms.

You’ll have everything you need for your picnic including our decadent Afternoon Tea, plates, cutlery, napkins and a blanket all packed away in a sturdy wicker hamper. Available to book 7 days a week.
